Wait, what Shin is hiding is how he let Henry die right in front of him and he didnt try to save him or anything? Is that his biggest secret? I don't see why he's making a big deal out of this. That jerk would have died anyways. I get that it was a pretty cold hearted move but still no big deal imo. There's no way Jake would guess what happened unless Shin confesses at some point. To be honest I don't think Jake would be shocked anyways

Same thoughts exactly, trying to figure out why it is so important for him to hide it, especially from Jake with whom he went through much wilder shit. Maybe Shin doesnt want him to find out that he can be so indifferent? That he can just walk away from dying people, also that he doesnt really feel anything when pressing the trigger? He thinks that Jake is rekkless, cold and calculating when in fact Shin is like that too... The difference is that Jake knows it and embraces it but Shin seems a little bit in denial about this part of his personality? Maybe thats why he feels so betrayed by the fact that Jake is not a gangster because it makes him realize his own true nature? I am not sure, I am a bit confused by the recent development

I think he’s in denial about who he truly is. For a long time, he clung to the idea that he was just a regular guy, someone with principles, someone different from the people he looked down on (due to his past of being in that household) But deep down, he knew he crossed a line. He didn't hesitate to pull the trigger or watch someone dies in front of him, he didn't feel a thing.
I guess he tried to convince himself that he was better than the criminals, the gangsters, etc. But the truth is, he’s not. The difference is paper-thin. Idk why he doesn't want Jake to know though of all people, but I guess it's because Jake might be the closest person to crack the code in himself, and he doesn't want that

I think it's because he still thinks about, even if he doesn't feel guilty, he still feels something.
"Wether I regret it or not, I just want to bury it so nobody finds out."
He doesn't want to think about how he feels about it, he just wants to forget, and if he knows Jakes knows, then he will get constantly reminded.

Thank you guys for sharing your opinion on this topic. It definitely makes more sense now. It seems Shin is indeed in denial and he's making a big deal about it because he still didn't embrace his true nature. Jake though has figured him out from day 1. That's why he kept repeating that Shin 'is different'. I bet he meant both in a good and bad way. And to be honest, judging from Shin's behavior the first time he met Jake and how he went on his knees straight away to seal a deal, we all guessed Shin was a special one lol I like that his personality is complex and that dark side about him makes him even more interesting. I've always been fascinated by cold & stoic people who remain calm and distant no matter the circumstances. I understand now that seeing Shin's tears when Gren died was a rare sight and we probably won't see him cry ever again (?). He's not your average emotional guy. He would have made a great CIA agent... or a psychopath xD

I thought we wouldn't have a confession from seme until next season which the author has already announced will be the redemption arc. I mean, the SA context was too overwhelming to appreciate the "I love you" part. It just wasn't the right moment. From what I understood, the rival who appeared this season will manage to help Yeonjo escape. He may then work with him to take revenge from the seme. From there on, I still have no idea how the redemption arc will come. What will make Yeonjo forgive or accept and confess his feelings? Weird. At this point, I am just waiting to see how crazy the seme will turn once he realizes he lost Yeonjo! He'll go ballistic and I hope he'll suffer like never before...

I think this confession was just blurted out. I don’t think it’s the TRUE confession, where Seme goes through some heavy life & soul readjustments, takes accountability for what he’s done, and asks/begs for forgiveness, and truly confesses and or reinforces his feelings. He might even have to show Yeonjo his feelings and live through actions, before Yeonjo forgives and accepts Seme’s feelings, and confesses his own love.
It’s weird to say bc of everything that’s currently happening, but truthfully…Yeonjo escaping and putting distance between them will help tremendously and put into motion Seme’s redemption and Yeonjo’s new life, becoming a person of society again, and forgiveness of Seme, but also forgiveness of himself. Because as we all can see, them being together after everything came out is even more toxic than what they were previously. Seme isn’t thinking correctly and is desperate to keep Yeonjo tied (or literally chained) to him. Worst thing he could’ve done, for this situation, for the both of them. <3

Yes exactly. The love confession wasn't the main one but I must admit it still moved me. We've never seen the seme so sincere besides maybe the time when he learned Yeonjo was fooling him and how he begged him to tell the truth. He was clinging so desperatly to the tiny hope that it would be false and he was more vulnerable than never. This time, he let his true emotions take the lead again but the context was the worst. I can't wait to see Yeonjo free and recover some of his bold and shining personality. I just hope the rival won't use/abuse him again xD

Yes. We have a glimpse of him in the last chapter of the previous season. He appeared again this season I believe but I don't recall which chapters exactly. In the latest raws, he appeared again and he's plotting to take down the seme and he sent someone to free Yeonjo. That's my interpretation from the panels only. I am still waiting for the translation. Hopefully I am not wrong

Question to those who (still) find Jake ugly: What it is it exactly that gives you the ick? Is it simply the hair? The pale skin? Because his facial features are freaking godly and I'm ready to die on this hill. And don't get me started on the body. So yeah please tell me why are you still hating on this Greek god for simply having Eminem hair? :,((( Really curious

I didn't really understand what happened between the panels where Jaeshin and Nok saw (or heard?) some kind of threatening event (which mobilized the guards) and the panels right after, where they were both playful and clueless as if nothing happened oO Like why in earth didn't Jaeshin take that threat seriously? I thought he saw the old man then but it seems he didn't saw him until he attacked Nok. In that case what did they saw and what were they saying during the playful time? Anybody can read Korean? :(

Methinks, Jaeshin didn't notice any danger back than. He just wanted to break free from the guards, as they were following them all the time. The guards are stressed bc they've lost the crown prince.
A moment later it's continuation ab the earrings. Nok wanted to buy him another one 'cause the other pair was broken. And Jaeshin picked a pair there.
Nok vocalised his heart feels relieved, that everything bad is over, but empty at the same time (we understand such feelings perfectly now ;___;). He's also lost at what he should do from now on, but since Jaeshin is by his side, he believes he can go through any circumstances, whether good or bad.
And Jaeshin confirms he's right next to him (yeah right, a second later he goes to talk to the messangers, leaving Nok all alone - as he had taken him from the guards...).

yes!! while reading the raws i have thought about this too bcs they were like the happiest in one moment and then the next thing yk but i feel like jaeshin have let himself distracted and let his guard down at that particular moment (can't blame him tho) and once you start thinking on that direction its just so heartbreaking :((

I haven't read this BL in ages. Why the art changed so much? Did the artist got replaced or something? I can barely recognize Yoohan :// He used to look so gorgeous with sharp features. Even the drawing style is less sophisticated. I am confused oO

Nah same artist, and as someone who draws, art styles change all the time bit by bit when new inspirations and references come about. I think in this case it’s been a while since the main story finished so the artist style has already changed to how they prefer to draw now. Also I kind of interpret yoohan softer looks as a part of his character development where revenge isn’t his reality anymore so he’s softened up, and I bet fed pretty well too during recovery.

To add on to this, I think the side story art style is more similar to the artists old work and is her preferred way of drawing. In my opinion, payback was actually kind of the odd one out of her entire art discography. There’s also the fact that Payback has been serialized for 4 years (yes it’s been that long), it would be weirder if the art style didn’t change in a span of close to half a decade.

Thanks for the insights! It does make sense although it's mainly Yoohan features and not the director (seme). The drawing style also changed a bit which you explained why. However I believe this artist may have succumbed as well to the trend of uke's twinification. It's happening to most of the BL I read and it drives me crazy :/// All of a sudden uke starts looking younger, slimmer and lose their sharp facial features. It's just sad at this point :/

I see where you are coming from because I’ve noticed that too. It’s just that in comparison to other series, the change in Yoohan’s looks wasn’t as drastic, though I suppose still noticeable to a certain extent.
Ngl, maybe I’m fine with it because I’m already used the artist’s original way of drawing characters more twink like, with payback being the first time she didn’t do so.
My theory is that since the artist is definitely an avid reader of bl manhwa’s as well, it wouldn’t be surprising that it eventually influenced her and other artists to go back to the way she drew certain types men (yoohan in this case where he’s the uke since in past works the artists uke were always twink like).
Not really a fan of Jake dragging Shin into this mess. He already did before and it ended up catastrophic for both of them. He's been using him since day 1 and I thought he would rather want to keep him away and safe now that he has feelings for him but nope! He just can't help it but being the selfish manipulative bastard he is. He just cannot back down when he has a target regardless of the consequences. It's annoying but also exciting I give him that. Hope he'll protect Shin way better this time!
