The problem is if they dig the characters in too deep of a hole no amount work can redeem it.
We literally had Jjk slap Dan after he actually fainted so he can keep going. Unless he actually stops in the next chapter there’s really no redemption for him. You can’t convince anyone he cares after he is quite literally fucking an unconscious person. Lol
