Honestly, I’m surprised that the uke didn’t have a depressive break down over being seen permanently by all those people that see him day to day. Specifically because he’s the boisterous straight guy type that I’m used to being the type that would have a mental breakdown if one of their friends found out they’re gay (like in a serious way and not a slapstick comedy way).
Mind over matter isn’t a thing unless you train for that. Unfortunately, MC seems to be physically sensitive since he’s been on edge and unfulfilled by his bf. What matters is what he says. He says no and the ML is ignoring that. He never even went to him after the first SA. Ran into him unexpectedly at work (which he can’t quit since he acknowledged he needed the money for rent - plus the present he wants to get his bf). And then ran into him at the booth and ML physically restrained him there. MC hasn’t said yes at all. He physically reacts and becomes unable to fight back with anything besides words - which are ignored by the ML. What will determine if he’s actually cheating or just an unfortunate victim will be his reaction from this point on.
He doesn’t seem like he’s so depressed he would be swayed by the ML’s manipulation of what’s actually happening, so I just hope that when he sees his bf next he just breaks down crying and tells him at least that ML keeps touching him. But if he does seek him out after this or doesn’t tell the bf now (or at least break up with him with some lie) then I’d start saying we’re walking into cheater’s town. I think MC would have to be pretty mentally broken for him to keep getting SAd while staying with his bf tho. I just don’t think he seemed broken really (super sad yeah, but not even depressed) to qualify for that route. If it did go that route go, then I hope the author makes the necessary adjustments for the plot to stay together and have this turn into a psychologically toxic yaoi.
I’m enjoying this quite a bit.
Yes, Maxi has a long road ahead of her to heal herself, but she’s also been with Riften (like in person) for maybe 6 months or a bit more at this point and her past abuse is a definite hinderance to learning when to stop/she doesn’t need to overdo it (especially in this new environment where everyone is accepting of her and she’s compelled even more to give back to them but they’re also her employees and don’t tell her what to do really - minus Riftan, of course), so I get that it’ll be a while before she feels confident that he won’t abandon her and actually tell him the truth of her upbringing - DYING to see this scene.
Also I commend that she took the initiative to learn about monsters herself from the library books and I like that Ruth always helps her out (like getting her better books about monster info and getting info on mouth muscle exercises). I do agree that Riftan (or one of the other knights/squires) should’ve prepped her, but his character is stubborn and quick to temper (like he even said it himself back in the beginning chapters) and with how determined he was to NOT have her come, I can see that never being something he even considered as a possibility so long as he had a say in it. Like she had to point out to him that even though he wanted her to live in luxury (and has been going for that goal like a racehorse with blinders on-not even wanting her to get used to seeing monsters or injured people), that isn’t what she wanted for her life.
I’m just SUPER anticipating how they get to a point where he realizes that what she needs for herself is to be needed as as person (since her dad got it into her head that she’s absolutely useless as an existence) and she realizes that he always valued her (cuz they’ve been hinting that he knew her before and somehow fell in love with her back then - I just hope it isn’t love at first sight since I don’t see that helping her sense of self).
All the backstory eps for characters made this suuuper long but it was pretty well done and I appreciate that the author knew when to get back to the main story (I was starting to not care about the extra characters’ background stories). Art is great, plot was well thought out, and the attention to detail as the story develops is well appreciated. Hopefully I remember to check in on this in a couple months (hopefully when there’s maybe another 10 chapters translated).
Kinda miffed that the dude is up front and direct about his feels (minus his tsundere moments in the beginning) but chika still doesn’t get it? Like why else would he say I love you if he didn’t??
Besides that tho, the biggest elephant in the room for me is that he fell for her looks and didn’t care about her personality (seeing that he’s been pining for her even through 4 years of her being mean) and NEVER tried to think about why she way acting that way??? Like it irks me when nobility (in universes like this) turns a blind eye to how they essentially pimp their daughters out. Like the lady was forced to marry you AND you were involved in a war against her home (even though her dad was a dum dum to start it, the duke was still involved and killed her people - even if his knights did it it counts as his responsibility due to his position). Marriage for that type of society/era is high class prostitution in a more permanent fashion (depends on how the particular stories handle divorce - do they go back on the market to further benefit their families or can they retire in the countryside as an independent woman?). I know he didn’t force her to sleep with him, but that doesn’t make it better that he was waiting for her to be stockholmed into loving him.
I just have a REALLY hard time believing someone loves the other in that situation without trying to see their side of the relationship. Also the FL kinda annoys me with how she’s fine with getting feelings for a dude that would do that to someone. Cuz the original lady is gone and FL knows how he treated her. And he didn’t even grow to love the new her or anything, he just never stopped loving the original chick for her looks and is more excited now that she’s finally acting the way he was hoping she would.
I’ll still give this more time in case the author approaches this eventually. I REALLY hope they have a coming out scene where FL tells ML that she’s a different person so he realizes the original chick died hating him and that he needs to reevaluate what he thinks it means to love someone. FL also needs to read his reaction to see what his deal is and see if he actually does love her (which he might - the bantering was cute and their convos aren’t bad). Super hope they don’t bring a kid into this toxic environment tho - at least not until they clear up what’s going on with eachother.
So I get the beginning and it makes sense up until Omega lead stops the alphas from raping the alpha lead. There’s no reason given for why he would and it felt like I skipped a huge part that showed omega lead getting the feels. And it’s not explained after either. So the biggest plot hole here is that I never saw the omega lead falling in love at all but then he’s popping in and saving the alpha lead and all of a sudden in in tune with the part of him that is in love? Like only the alpha lead had his love explained/shown to the readers.
The side omega’s bad fate made sense because of his bad decisions (and it makes sense the omega lead wouldn’t give a crap about him since nowhere did it ever show that he cared about anyone) and I’m actually glad that it didn’t end up that the teacher kidnapped him and locked him away or something (I was low key scared of this when they mentioned the teacher and the student were both missing) but it does sit bad with me that both the pedos in this story had nothing happen that would have them take responsibility for what they did.
Overall, I can make out what the goal was here but the biggest pitfall that causes none of it to make sense is that we have 0 insight into any of the omega lead’s thoughts on anyone except the pedo that raped him first and continued to traumatize him, thus making the whole story feel like it was glue sticked together. The story just doesn’t flow well and doesn’t let readers get to know 1/2 of the main characters.
