I know that I'm coming into this late but I honestly think the character at the end is Amon. Aside from the obvious clue in text even if people say that it's Ayato the character don't match from one panel to the next. Ayato has some furry stuff ( fuzzy shit?) around his collar while the one at the end is wearing a cloak. Also, Ayato's hair is longer while the one at the end is shorter. If that's the case, I honestly did not expect Amon to end up with Banjou. It actually makes me happy that he did cuz Banjou was one of the good ones...
I've checked the wikia and the man on the last page was said to be amon and he was listed as a Artificial One-Eyed Ghoul

I love how the sly and composed Makio lost his cool at the end. Nobody said that loving the mysterious Makio would be easy. I hope Makio changes his ways just don't change his personality!
