I'm really confused how he really died. Did he died because Jiang Cheng killed him or he did because he destroyed half of the Stygian Tiger Seal?

so from what i can remember...WWX destroys half of the STS, which causes the fierce corpses he was controlling to turn on him and rip his body to shreds.

It tells you in chapter one four of the sects turned on him and killed him but but the rest of the world was told he lost control of the fierce corpses and they killed him.

Based on the wiki that I've read, it seems that he acquired Wei Wuxian's Golden Core. How did it happen? Does he know about it? The anime only shows that he went to a mountain then Wei Wuxian was captured Wen Chao
It wont show it till the very end. In the novel it was at the end. So fucking sad. There was no one at the top of the hill besides wei and wen ning and wen bing's sister.....she transferred wei ying's core upon his request....then he had no spiritual powers at all...that's why he quit wearing his sword. He only could cultivate with the flute. And THEN you find out Jiang Cheng never went back for his parents bodies.....he in fact got caught on purpose to save wei. (Jiang Cheng finds out about the core at the end but wei never finds out the truth about jiang trying to save him)
In the novel Jiang Cheng won't know until the very person he loathes tells him. Before Wei Wuxian (original) dies, Lan Wangji had suspected something but couldn't quite put his finger on it. Jiang Cheng fought with Wei Wuxian, and when Wei Ying was left unconscious, Wen Ning was so upset that he made Jiang Cheng pull Subian (WWX sword) from its scabbard. Only WeiWuxian, the owner could do it since it was sealed - so it shocked Jiang Cheng. That was when it was revealed the sacrifice Wei Wuxian did for Jiang Cheng. It was also the reason why Wei Wuxian had no other choice but to use the dark path of cultivation - he no longer had a golden core.

The novel is so good. read it guys. And some smexy stuff may not appear in the manga and anime. But the novel has it. just go to the scanlator (ExR) group's website and look for GDC (novel).
I've finished it. And I still re-read it. The extra stories are also awesome!

Too bad some of the stuff in the novel may not be shown in the manga and anime. I found season 2 of the anime way too short... hopefully the 3rd season will make up for it.
