I'm not surprised by the twist nor by the fact he is the same person he always were. He acts out of twisted love, anger, sadness & fear - pretty much nothing has changed.

In chapter 45 one of the immortals said that if he prayed hard enough they could grant his wishes. I assume that is somehow the reason he survived the last battle and even though it wasn't truly explained, Ryu is not an ordinary human at all. That's how I can more or less understand the ending, even though it was rushed.
Also, I kinda miss the the other couple from the first season ╥﹏╥

The premise was alright, the execution was awful, the ML is a lunatic, abuser & no way that would be redeemable. MC went through all the trauma and it felt really awful reading it, fell in love too quickly, forgave him and we got a "happy ending".
