that was sorta the custom in ancient china. considering the time period, the age gap isn't that bad (also pretty sure that the romance will begin much later in the story)

I pretend he is 20. Even then, I still cringe. They didn't have to make her 16. I don't like how many authors like doing this. There would have been no problem if she was 20 herself and the prince 25. It's a fictional world. She can surely come up with a legal age.

Elise is 18 probably turning 19.
She turned 17 (coming of age) during the war (previously during the banquet where she met Yulian she was 16)
And then when the war ended 10 months after she was forcibly resigned, she probably turned 18 during that period. (I need to go calculate my seasons)

I do want to think that mayhaps the prince is somewhat closer in age to her (though that may not be the case)

Yeah a lot of authores love making the woman or female lead so young it’s rather disgusting/ disturbing actually. I think it has todo with the fact at 16 they are still innocent and a vergin. I feel like it has todo with a lot of history and the past. But I do think she will be 17-18 when she is married so that’s a lot better then just 16. But the whole time I always thought she was 19-20 lol

I think they want to factor in the time she helped out in the war, especially with timelines being icky, Elise could've been married at 16 to Prince but be sheltered from all of that and then she loses Chris

Exactly. If the FL needs to be teenage, then make the male lead teenage as well. There are a lot of unbelievable things happening in these isakai stories anyway. A hero teenage crown prince to be will not make much difference than a 25 year old. I also think they get so romanticed by the innocent, virgin idea that it is disturbing. 16 is like this flowery age. The ML and FL can have an age difference of about 2 years. or even 1. As long as we don't have children romancing with adult males.
Also, what's wrong with a FL being 20 or 22-24 then male lead 28-30? You can still perfectly develop a romantic story there. Men, it just gets disturbing when you realize its women seemingly pushing pedophilia and calling it romance.

It's true it can get tricky. But sometimes I wonder, is historical timelines the only factor that the authors love the 16 year old dating 25+ male? I sometimes feel like they consider girls ripe for marriage at that age. Young enough to be appealing but still innocent enough for the always very sexually experienced male lead.

The thing is we don't have a gauge for Crown Prince's age. You can say he's about 20, but what about the time he sworn to get revenge for his mother? He matured fast and seems like that?

You can only really draw the hard line if Prince looks really old and mature and they mention he's at that ripe 25 age for all we know he can be like Lawrence, slightly older than Artezia...
