It's just her learning magic to be useful and helpful as she feels like she's not doing much it aslo helps that learning magic is boosting her self confidence and self worth her husband doesn't like her learning magic because she overexerted herself once and he never forgot it so he constantly poses as an obstacle to her learning more magic. At the current chapter him and his men have to go on an expedition but they need a mage and Maxi offers herself as the mage for the expedition but Riftan shuts that down because he doesn't want her to get hurt or exert herself so she's going over his head to do it right now.
