If you assault someone, they will not care about your “sad” backstory, because YOU, not someone else, assaulted THEM. It won’t matter that you “feel bad” about it, you still assaulted them, that fact is cemented.
If ayeon assaulted a woman, I genuinely don’t believe the reaction would be the same, it’d at least be A LOT more controversial. Soyeon is batshit crazy, but ayeon shouldn’t immediately be absolved of his crimes bc he “loved” her. He still committed them. A rapist might’ve been assaulted in the past, but that doesn’t make them any less a rapist. Someone might’ve been peer pressured into assaulting someone by their friends, which is scarily not uncommon irl, but they're still the perpetrator bc they went through with the action.
If someone is crying and screaming for help under you, but you continue to go through with it, you ARE guilty. I feel very strongly about this bc THIS IS STILL AN EXTREMELY RELEVANT AND PREVALENT PROBLEM IRL. I’m not saying ayeon deserves to go to prison or anything for the rest of his life, but there should have been consequences. Soyeon got her’s.

soyeon was just a bitch since childhood and aeyon couldn't stand up for himself, he was strong but could easily be manipulated. he felt like he had to get her approval no matter what. so i understand why aeyon bc i've also been through a toxic relationship. it feels suffocating.. so when he broke up w her, i felt so happy i couldn't help but smile (▰˘◡˘▰)

For me, because ayeon hits too close to life, I’m not able to give him such an easy pass.
I don’t think a person you assaulted not forgiving you is a punishment, it’s an understandably just reaction. Ayeon ended up being socially isolated for a while after, but even that just passed so quickly. The reason behind action is such a subjective gray area that it'll really vary per person per case. I don’t blame ayeon for getting stuck with soyeon bc he obviously had his own issues with isolation and codependency, I was just particularly annoyed by how fast it skimmed over everything he did to people even beyond jaerim to get to a happy ending.
Looking back, I was also more frustrated with the comments immediately discounting ayeon’s actions bc of soyeon. She might’ve been the reason, but that doesn’t excuse him, which he at least realized. He is improving, I just wish there was more to it.
