The only logical reason for deviating this much from the novel to create something this badly written is that the manhwa finished earlier than the novel so the creators of the manhwa didn't know the ending of the novel. The outcome is superficial, mediocre and anticlimactic. They even made K a victim, LOL. If they did it deliberately, knowing the novel, they are not just talentless but plain stupid too.
These changes take away so much, not just from Edith's character but from the others too. One example is Cliff. The main characters were all heavily under the influence of the author, Cliff the most, but even so, it was Cliff and only Cliff who saw through Lize from the start (but decided to help her anyways), not the Duke, the Duchess or anyone else. The other one is naturally Killian. Here, he was practically powerless and it was the princess who saved Edith. The princess who interacted with Edith 3 times or so...and Killian's great moment is gone. Not even talking about Linon, the witness, who should've brought the decisive evidence. He is the prime example of Edith's approach of constantly interacting with the extras as the only successful method.
Spoiler for the novel
When Edith gave up hope, she returned with the knights in a sorry state and was taken to the execution ground without even questioning her of her involvement. The Duke was ready to execute her when Killian arrived and the Duke gave him the right to make a decision of Edith. Killian said those lines from the original novel, that every Riegelhoff deserve to die because of their crimes and then he said, my wife is, btw, a Ludwig. Then he talked about his investigation, there was chaos, Edith's hood fell off, they saw her injuries, even the Duke was surprised, thought that Edith was attacked after running away from the castle but Killian said that she sustained those injuries while in the caste by the maid and her brother, and the Duke eventually decided to put Edith to prison and continued with the execution. After Edith was taken away, Linon arrived to testify for Edith and the maid also the truth about Edith's lineage and her being a dog etc. Killian later also saw her bag, that she only carried a utility knife and a compass with her and had some sweet potatoes like the beggars and cried. It was a really good catharsis.
I read the novel, to put it simply, the story is a wife chasing crematorium, ML is an idiot as they normally are but he fights and suffers for MC to get him back pretty long but MC is really reluctant. It's a pretty good story IMO
I'm not finished the novel (2/3 done) but here's my pov. The MC and ML have a push and pull and eventually the MC gets pretty equal w him in terms of sassing back and attitude. He's not really a victim at this point anymore, bc years have passed so we only get to see him reminisce on his hard days when he was abandoned, now he's just jaded and dgaf. The ML slowly starts getting obsessed with him and I'm at the point where he's freaking out over him sometimes. Their relationship is constantly evolving and it's not really prone to sudden changes like most manhwas, where they mistreat the MC for a long time and suddenly overnight regret it and start acting different. Both MC and ML go together at a similar pace and are pushing and pulling on each other, realising new feelings slowly, fighting and getting along etc. It's kind of unique, almost like a really long and subtle redemption for their relationship. The world building in the novel is really good. MC has a lot of secret tricks and ML is actually more supportive and observant of MC than u would imagine but they still have the love-hate relationship and MC feels dead inside/over him so there's entertaining tension. I will update this if I finish and see if the ML suffers a lot, but right now their relationship isn't really that bad.
Yes, it will come in that last 1/3 worrygirl hasn't read yet. Spoiler
ML finally came in term with his affection for MC, although he was still traumatised by what has done to him as a child but MC became an exemption. But MC got informed by the bad guy that ML spent his previous years trying to get a solution for getting rid of him, he breaks down emotionally, gets kidnapped and brainwashed to forget everything. ML follows him, he was crippled without his powers, lives like a homeless, getting beaten and tortured for I think 2 years but never gives up and finally rescues MC. Who rejects him, so ML will need to work hard for a bit more
ML was kidnapped as a child and got forcefully guided by a male guide, this is the source of his trauma and every problem they have. It's not elaborated in the novel what exactly happened but very probably he got raped. When he met MC, he thought he is a girl and he was very enthusiastic with MC, even gentlemanly waited for "her" to be of age. During this time, I don't think he slept with anybody. When it turned out, MC is a male, he broke down and on top of that, MC forced the imprint on him without his agreement. This not only triggered his trauma but made him a ticking timebomb, an esper without proper guidance. During the years after that, he lived a very wild life, got involved with a lot of guide, trying to get the necessary guidance, overwrite the imprint, because of sexual needs and so on. In the end, he returns and tries to face MC properly but he is not too good with communication so the road for them is very bumpy.
Yes, it could be interpreted like that too, it happened as I understood because he was shocked by the rejection and emotionally couldn't let it go which triggered the process. By forced I meant that it happened one-sided without the consent of ML. I liked this actually, I think it's a strong point in the novel that both of them have complex situations, none of them is entirely innocent, both of them are victims, but you can relate to both of their struggles.
The story is pretty decent, more complex than the common rebirth-revenge-romance type of stories but it has two fatal flows: 1. not enough face slapping 2. the characters (other than the ML, FL and real dad) are ugly. People tend to read these kind of stories because of the appearance of the characters, beautiful people, beautiful clothes etc and above everything else, for the revenge trope, face slapping, giving back everything tenfold as usual. Without these, it's a bit boring
So the time has arrived when I bring this back from marination
