Hello! I'm here to ask, just how old or young are the people in the BL manga community. I myself am 20 years old, and have been reading BL since I was 7-8. I was never the hyper type to gush over the cuteness and being a lesbian I've mostly skip the sex scenes. I'm in it for the story.
So, please. Could you comment how old you are currently and age you started reading BL? And what was it like when you found out about BL in general?
You can also mention your gender, sex, sexual orientation too if you wanna.
P.S. I'm mainly doing this, well, because I was just curious if I'm the only one that reads BL like this.
Much thanks! Have a good day/afternoon/night!
Hi, well I’m 15 and I’ve been reading BL since I was 13 nothing too explicit at first (I still skip sex scenes aha not too comfortable with it yet). I read shounen ai more than yaoi bc I like fluffy cute relationships and prefer it over smutty ones and like reading BL’s with a strong plot. I’m a girl and I think I’m bi..? I’m still not sure... (=・ω・=)
I cant remember how or when exactly i got into BL or Yaoi but it was around when i was 12-13. It started with Echii(a scums wish) and mad me feel all grown up and stuff so i started looking for it and eventually made it into the Bl community.
As someone who has always been a fan of romance since ive never been attracted to anyone and skips over the sex scenes (honestly when people over do them its annoying) because the feeling of being grown up has wore of i have no idea why i enjoy yaoi.
I'm in it for the plot and romance, i would probably enjoy straight and yuri Manwas but since im already in the bl community so i guess im stuck lmao.
Hello, it's almost 3 am and Im bored so I decided to take part in the answering hehe
I'm a female, turning 23 and I'm bi. I actually started reading BL mangas after I started taking interest in reading BL kpop fanfics when I was 16. I read mangas because I wanted to know what the sex positions actually looked like in the fics I was reading so I just spiraled downhill from there. I like the romance in some BLs because it's relatable. Like, I'd read a few stories and be like, shit. Same. Because Im also from a conservative family hahahha Also, I discovered this site from a classmate in college who shared it to me because we were both into BL together
Hello!
I am Kyatto and I’m an older teen. I started reading BL around when I was 13. I just realised recently how I never minded BL comics when my friend introduces it to me, I think it was then I also started exploring my sexuality. I do not know which gender I want to identify now, I actually was thinking about being non-binary but I really don’t know.. for now, I prefer to go by he or they despite being in a biological female body. She is just fine too. I also am into girls.
I guess I really like reading BL comics since I can’t imagine them being done to me, I also really like GL and Hetero but the stories I like are mostly really long so I leave them for later. I can’t feel anything for BL stories though since I am absolutely not into guys so I basically just read it for the plot lol.
Nice to meet you.
I'm 18 y/o and a female, I'm straight but never been in a relationship. I love anime since i was young and start reading manga around highschool. I can't remember exactly when and what yaoi i read, but i've been hooked by it.Maybe it's around 2-3 years since i read it. But nobody, not a soul know that i read yaoi. If anyone find out, i'll be dead.
(⌒▽⌒)
hey, I'm a straight female turning 20 this year. I started reading yaoi when I was 15 because my bestfriend randomly recommended me some animes I should watch (I still have that tiny list she gave me, what a nostalgia...) I started with sekaiichi hatsukoi and after that I caught up every bl animes I could find. then I found this holy website and yeah...became a yaoi addict. :D
Current age is secrety, but I've been reading yaoi/or hentai in general since I was like 10? Discovered it first when I was 9 (it's a Black Butler dj I think?) and got traumatized when two people screwed on the first page, months later I thought it was rather arousing, and been reading religiously since then.
I am panromantic, who leans more towards woman and love to consider myself a very feminine woman lol. It's pretty surprising since I came from a very religious and homophobic household and country, but I remained closeted so damn fine.
I guess I'm going to be the oldest one on this post. I'm in my 30's I'm bi and I didn't get into manga until I was 19. I was a late bloomer. lol. I blame adult swim. I can't even remember my first bl but I thought it was interesting and then I was hooked. I love bl more than straight stories maybe because of the hardship and courage it takes to be together. To me bl can be more heart wrenching. Anyway nice to meet you.
I'm 16,not really sure of sexuality but I'd say bi if I had to pick. I've been reading since I was 12. I really liked reading as a kid and I discovered fanfiction, then bxb fanfiction, bxb novels and then an ad for a webtoon led me to manga. I love bl for the plot and the sexy scenes. I love gushing over cute interactions and also drama. I mainly enjoy it for the amazing art, mangas with loveable, attractive characters are the best in my opinion.
Stumbled upon it while looking for DBZ content on YouTube and found a dj (thought it was a missing arc). I was confused when two guys were doing it and realized it was some type of fan comic. I ended up reading all 3 chapters/volumes. Still remember the pairing (Future Gohan x Future Trunks). This was 7-8 years ago and I’m now 21F.
23 female, dunno my sexual orientation, probably asexual. I just started really reading it a few months ago. I’ve read/watched a couple shounen ai over the years but never really got super into the genre until recently. I really like gender bend and crossdressing romances and I really like when the mc ends up with the male love interest so I think that got me started with BL. I just started reading it like mad suddenly. I think my first BL was actually the first manga I read though when I was like 14
Heyy, I'm 17 and I discovered bl when I was 11. It started with some kuroko no basket yaoi fanart (my first gay ship ever was Aomine x Kise btw (⌒▽⌒) I still love them). I was just googling Kuroko no basket then I saw "yaoi" in the suggestion and I was curious since I didn't know what it was and 0_0. But it didn't repulse me and as you can guess, I quickly became addicted haha. Then I thought that I should start watching bl because just looking at fanart wasn't enough lol.
So my first bl ever was Gravitation, the anime not the manga (do ppl still remember that manga xd?), then Junjou Romantica but I was feeling a little uncomfortable while watching the first episode because, ya know xd. However now I'm totally fine with those scene hehe (actually, I'm too confortable with sex scene now, it scares me lmaoo, like I can accept anything haha). However I can't remember my first bl manga but I think it was a classic one fore sure.
When I see ppl say their first bl was for example love is an illusion or something more "recent", I feel old because all of my first were old one haha.
oof, I wrote too much, hope ya all have good day (=・ω・=)
Thank you for answering, even if you were bored out of your mind xD I hope you fun answering this question at least!
I've never read K-pop fanfic. Idk I feel weird shipping real people together, unless is canon . But if it's something you enjoy, I'm happy you like it! People work hard on making em! XD
Well nice to meet you! I understand, I only recently came out to my father about me being gay, along with having a girlfriend for nearly 8 years. I refuse to talk about it, hates it went l bring it up.
Stay strong thought, ok? You love who you love and no one can take that from you! Thanks for answering my post too!
Nice to meet you as well! And I can relate. It's a norm with see in media, depiction of love only through a relationship between a cis male and female. Not that I hate straight people or anything lol, but honestly I just can't find myself watching and enjoy it.
Just like you, LGBTQ based stories are more compelling and shows hardships straight relationships never tackle.
Anyway, thank you for answering my question!
Nice to meet you too!
And I don't wrong you for not reading killing stalking. I was tasked to do a review of it, so I had to power through it like a champ! XD and I get the heartstrings portion. I've only ever read 4 manga in my life time that almost made me cry. And I NEVER cry for anything! XD
Glad you like it tho!
Also thank you for answering my question!
Lol FYI I do still remember the Gravitation manga....it's just been in my "must read" list for the last 6 years. I'll get to it I swear. And I understand the "recent" first manga for people too. My first BL anime, was literally the first ever BL anime. Most people haven't even watched those yet, nor read the manga.lol
It was nice meeting you and thanks for answering my question!
Hello everyone! This is the second topic I've even posted here (first on was back in 2020, check out and continueit if you like), and the responses to it was wonderful and I was happy to get to know how ya'll started ya'll BL journey!
Now, with my new question!
How has your BL taste changed over the years?
I'm currently 24 and still a lover of BL. My taste has always been the same. Never too into spicey scenes, into for the story. Never liked the toxic type of relationships, but a sucker for idiot couples.
The only thing that's changed for me, is that I've been reading more manhwa/web webtoons than regular Japanese Manga.
So, how have you changed over the years with how or what you read in a comic?
Thank you for taking your time to read/answer this question! I'll reply if you'd like as well!
Bye for now.
yes tbh i was more into really popular bls but now ik what i like and what i don't and surprisingly i started reading shounen ai more
Thank you for answering! And I understand, sometimes people just read for the romance and story, than for the spicy stuff. Lol
I started out with yaoi anime around 2013-2014 (I think).
My first watches were Junjou Romantica, Sekai-ichi Hatsukoi, etc. When I was younger, I really liked them, lol! But... I don't think I'd be able to watch them again because of the drawn-out miscommunication stuff, haha.
I don't think my tastes have changed all that much. I prefer wholesome yaoi, though psychological ones are also interesting to me. Smut scenes are also a good bonus~ (^u^) I try to stay away from the rapey/toxic ones because sometimes the characters are just... Bleh.
As for my preference in manga/manhwa, I tend to read more manga. I've read a few manhwa, but I don't usually click with most of them.
My favorite yaoi right now is Define The Relationship! The characters are such sweethearts.
honestly i used to read anything but my tastes have evolved so much that I can almost never read something that makes me satisfied lol...
anything with extremely stereotypical and i close it like the small uke big seme trope i got so tired of that i hate it and almost exclusively look for same body type or big uke small seme things.
i also have been really into middle aged/older aged characters in bls rather than years ago when i would mostly read school life or younger characters. age gap relationships that are like 30yrs and 45+yrs are so good...
its so bad that my tastes evolved this was because theres nothing for me anymore
Thank you for answering! Ah the good old days of Junjou Romantica and Sekai-ichi Hatsukoi. I can highly agree, miscommunication manga trends have been a thing that tends to pop up so often. If played out right can make a great story. But draw it out for like 4 volumes or more? It's too much lol.
Ah, yes! I like psychological bl manga/manhwa. They keep you on your toes. Especially if there is a plot twist involved. And I understand, haha. Some people like either jp manga, kor manhwa, or even chinese donghua. This bl world is our oyster!
Oh! I've read that a bit back. They are, aren't they! I like the omegaverse, but with a little change to it. They are such a cute couple. Comics that break away from the norm of a tiny bottom character that seem weak and frail and a top that's an ass-hat or just overall too dominant, are truly a breath of fresh air. MLM couples are one of my favorites. The relationship seems more wholesale when being developed.
Thank you again for answering!
Thank you for answering!
I highly agree. The basic trope of the stereotypes in bl manga/manhwa gets on your nerves after a while. Especially if you have been a lot time reader and you get older and more mature.
I've always liked the concept of mlm yaoi manga since I was younger, but they were SO hard to come by. So I totally understand the struggle.
Age apes in BL are great! But some mangaka ( or their Korean or Chinese counterparts) seem to miss a mark on how to play it out properly. For example, an age gap the involves a middle schooler and a older man in his late 20s or early 30s, is a red flag. But a collage student with and older man in there 40s is pretty nice. Especially if their personalities mix together very well.
Lol I hope you can find some that you'll come to like! I like to go back a read some old manga I like and try out something similar to them. To kind of branch of to new horizons.
Try that and see if it's for you. Can't hurt lol.
Thanks for taking the time to make your question and reply back. Made me reflect on what it was that I was trying to find from all the yaois I've experienced, haha. It was pretty fun to share my experience, and I liked reading about yours.
Have a good one. (●'◡'●)ノ
I love getting to know people that like the same stuff as I do!
Hehe, you have a great one too! ヾ(❀╹◡╹)ノ~
