The Grand Duke were the original rulers, but something happened to the goddess that protect their world, that thing that is trying to go through. What's keeping that thing lock is the tower, which is made up of the goddess herself she sacrificed her whole being to lock that thing away. However, it's getting stronger, and the kingdoms need help, so they basically summoned heros from other another word to help them, which are the lords to advance through the tower. The grand dukes do in fact dream of their perfect ruler they dream about them so much they become obsessed. Also the ML dreams of a white winged figure with blonde hair he doesn't see the figures face that's why he obsessed of keeps MC look like that, he wants MC to be the one he's dreaming.
Also the misunderstanding will be cleared soon ML does love MC (alot) but the Guides/Noise interrupts and changes the confession (ToT) they basically sabotage them from going higher in the tower they were too OP

He goes to walk the celestial he rescued to a portal and he gets ambushed by the cousin/family member he used to live with and they torture the fuck out of him. Stabbed his wing then they kidnap him and pretty much have a slave trade of celestials going on. His wing gets severely infected and then later on when Fen (engineer guy) goes on a conference call with the said abusive piece of shit he rips his wing of in front of the conference call and twists the roots of his wings to an unimaginable point (he later eats said wing as well) . After he gets thrown back into the cell and suffers from infection. (He eventually gets it healed with a special potion when he gets rescued but Nel has to untwist his roots again and it’s a painful process. )
