Most likely, the author was not given enough pages and chapters to develop the story. Many authors have posted on their twitter that they wanted to create the story more, but the publication limited their work.

This is probably the last sport manga I will read. I don’t like how the main team never wins in the end.
This manga is on hiatus. This was the last chapter released by the author. Due to health reason they haven’t return to complete it. Please correct me if I wrong tho.
