He didn’t send the mob of elders, the mob rushed in angrily after an important sacred tree that Lee Yeon had performed surgery on died. Before Chaewoo broke up w Lee Yeon, he had secretly poisoned the tree to hurt Lee Yeon. The townspeople who worshipped that tree blamed Lee Yeon and attacked her because they had been against the idea of her performing surgery on it from the start.
Chaewoo watched from inside a car as she got pushed around by the elders and felt pleased as he watched her get attacked (at the time, he believed Lee Yeon had somehow been involved with his mothers death. Which is why he’s so heartless towards Lee Yeon during the break up, I’ve got a full novel spoiler on my acc that explains the connection between Chaewoo, his mom and Lee Yeon). Around that time he and Lee Yeon were not aware about the pregnancy. Lee Yeon finds out two weeks later after Chaewoo leaves her.
