As someone who has dealt with poverty all their life and with suicide in previous years this story was confusing to me to say the least at least when first reading it. One of the first few chapters of Hoon cutting himself surprised me a bit but when they showed him trying to commit suicide by slitting his wrists now that was hard to read. Hoonās suicide tendencies and attempts are presented as comedy but honestly him wanting to not want to suffer a painful death is something I could relate to. The chapter were he realizes he never actually wanted to die was immensely powerful to me since Iāve been there. I suppose what Iām trying to say is that this story isnāt trying to undermine the issues presented but trying to tell the readers that this happens. Hoonās friends are presented very realistically the yellow haired boy serves as representation that truly kind people do exist. The glasses boy serves for the more common people who arenāt horrible people but wouldnāt be considered pure-hearted. He cares for Hoon but at the same time doesnāt know where his relationship with Hoon should stand since heās scared of the black lash of being friends with Hoon but doesnāt leave Hoon be since he doesnāt want the guilt of knowing he couldāve done something to help Hoon. Which is something Iāve witnessed before. Well this is just my interpretation on what I think of the webtoon.
