I think Witte liked Shaflay but was over his antics. That's why he didn't tell him he had a human form, to not have to deal with his obsessive behavior. They had this "adult taking care of dumb child" vibe imo
also wittes “death” just seems so anticlimactic for me like they propped him up to be a wise older dragon, gave us some character development and now he just dies? that’s too fast paced and if he’s actually dead then the author needs to plan this out more
