Hmm, I had that same experience a couple years ago. For me I was just caught up in my own problems to even bother with yaoi. Didn't have the time or interest for it especially since they all seemed like the same plot to me. But here I am now back at it again. To me a couple is a couple no matter the gender. I’ve never felt shy near a same sex couple, it actually always makes me feel happy because we live in a time where they can fully exhibit their love without worries just like every other couple (at least where I am).
