He was really out here being happy that remi was jealous and he was like- yeah, I'll make her even more addicted to me, I'll manipulate remi to be even more subservient and obedient, and addicted, by letting her be more and more jealous, and then humiliate her and make it seem like she's the lucky one in the engagement because I forgave her, and kept her despite her ruined reputation--- that's why when she refused to apologise he was so shocked and blusing and shit
and that's why he actually went through with breaking up the engagement despite still having feelings for her-- he wanted her to come back and beg for his love.

yes, completely on the dot. a lot of men want their girlfriends/wives to be humbled and be “thankful” he chose her despite all her “flaws” (forced insecurities). the prince is such a good example of this type of toxic man who humiliate their partners so they think no one would accept them except for him.

I get you. But I feel I all three were walls that he had to overcome. N if he doesn't kill Miss Mage, she'll probably be after his ass once he gets into the enemy city/camp. Plus I'm sure he just wants to grow stronger (^_^)
That's how he is, his obsession on conquering things that made him despair is what led him to this situation. Also, even if he didn't seek out that made, she will still be problematic. Who knows if they go through the tunnel, the mage might follow suit and they will still end up dead so it's much better to eliminate all possible dangers if he have a way and have a better advantage on knowing the near future, much better than getting nervous at what will comes next because you left a danger alone on it's own devices
