Love the overarching theme of decisions/fate and sacrifices this story has, especially with war as the backdrop. Everyones story is so deeply entwined and in a way it became a journey of their own self-redemption (mag acknowledging the weight of the war, squal standing up against his father, jack trying to clear margaret’s name due to his ‘actions’). They all had shitty circumstances and were pushed to the edge by the southern leader. sigh My heart still aches at that chapter where Margarent hugs mag as she lies about her being a witch. Its so beautiful and devastating, what a scene…… Author/artist rlly popped off in all the creative departments when they did this bc whew, the way it tied in and paralleled with the little mermaid? What a fucking banger.
