Basically the more something is rare and in demand the higher the price; rare=expensive and abundant=cheap. It's the same when it comes to currency, the more it's in demand the higher it's value, for example one moroccan dirham (sorry for using my country's currency, i hope i don't confuse you ) is equal to 12 euros and 9 dollars,. Since most of our trades are made with the eu, their currency has more value to us. Now if we have something the eu wants and can't get it else where, our money's value is gonna go up and they will have to pay us more.
Now back to the story, since the stew is in demand and the cats can't have it anywhere else they have to pay the prices that MC asks, which means that her currency is getting mire value. And aince the Devil of wealth himself showed interest in the coins he made it's value go up even more. And if he wants to dominate this new currency he will have to not show interest in it, so that it's value goes down and he can get it at a lower price. And once that's done he can give it more value l.
