I feel like their portrayal of weight is very harmful. It’s kind of implying that you can’t be loved, can’t get a good job, or just really can’t succeed it most areas of life without being really skinny. I get the concept and how this is often seen in Asian literature, such as the really popular anime and manga Kiss Him Not Me, but I can’t help but feel extremely uncomfortable by it. I used to think it was a cute trope when I was younger but now that I’m older and have struggled with an eating disorder and one of my friends has even been hospitalized because of one recently I can’t help but think of how extremely harmful this could be to other young girls out there. Especially how her friend is encouraging her in the beginning being like you have to completely lose 50 kg to get this guy to like you and then even mentions later on how she could be “rebounding”. This totally made me uncomfortable and all I could think about it how harmful and toxic this could be to others struggling with body issues out there.
Sorry for the rant I just had to put it out there cause I was kinda pissed lol
I don’t understand why him finding the book is that bad, like isn’t it just a list of people she should look out for and who may try to harm her? Wouldn’t that actually help the search for the assassin?? Idk I’m a bit confused on y the emperor getting it is so bad and how much she’s reacting to it
shes been acting all meek and scholarly to make her an unseeming target, having that book would make an evidence of her plotting and scheming ahead and not as passive as she would like this to be. also the watchlist is probably filled with movement records, networks and her other findings not just the initial data she asked nany and father before i think
I agree with vajavana. While what she's using it for is for investigating and keeping herself safe, without any explicit context written on the book itself, it can be construed as an active effort to manipulate people for malicious purposes. Even if it isn't construed that way it can be used to accuse her of just that if the emperor wishes, and going by his track record and in her understanding and impression of him, he is very likely to do just that if it suits his agenda to punish her with any excuse he can make up.
I agree but the emperor is dumb so he’ll probably make a big deal out of it and treat the empress bad just bc of some writings
