You're absolutely right. The MC could still be blackmailed because he's a liability either way. What if they're chasing after an alpha and counting on him to do work but he goes into heat due to those alpha pheromones? (Like it did happen in one of the chapters)
In fact, he's putting the whole team at risk because his alpha colleagues could end up reacting to his pheromones due to some mishap and mess up the whole thing.
