I would guess it's multiple but also more about feelings being in tune. Since the short hair girl feelings are one-sided, the string wasn't complete, but it became visible since MC has some sympathy for her too...
I rlly wish that would be the case cus there's this thought in my mind that she could be Yeon's original red string but since he forced his fate on Kihoon in their past life, they are the ones connected instead. And the consequences for manipulating that fate is Hong Kihoon's nonsensical bad luck
