I legit hoped the mother would, well, wake up but it looks like it’s too late at this point. I think even if Serena “gains feelings” at this point, and the mother realises what she’s done, Serena’s new understanding of “feeling” would keep her from forgiving her mother (at least I hope so, because bitch doesn’t deserve it).
I also can’t get over the fact that she just adopted a commoner without consulting her husband either and basically replaced her own child with her. Like wouldn’t she need a signature from her husband or something?? Especially considering that they’re a ducal household?
