Penelope and the ML (the blond prince) happened to be together in the woods when the hunting games began. They start talking but then these group of assassins tried killing the prince and her because she was trying to help the prince. The group, however, was still able to poison the prince but they managed to escape by jumping off a cliff that has water down below. They explore a nearby cave (with some details I will leave it that are important but too much to explain) and are able to go back to the grounds where people were searching for them. Except the prince passes out because the poison overworked him and people assumed Penelope had something to do with it and lock her up. So while waiting for the trial to start, her family comes in to get information on what happened. EXCEPT THE OLDER BROTHER, who didn't even let her explain, says she should have not done anything and have her quickly say she's guilty of her crime. When she tries to say she didn't do anything, her brother basically ignores her and says why should he think anything different+shut up.
Np, HUGE AND LONG SPOLIER for during the trial and after the trial.....

Okay so during the trial, Penelope was being accused of killing the 7 assassins (they were noblemen). A man (his name is Viscount Garboil) was bought forth as a witness and he states that when he finally found+killed a bear, Penelope "suddenly appeared" and threatened him w/his mates to give the bear prey to her while she was holding her crossbow at them. This leads to people in the courtroom to go like "Ahh, look at her, tsk tsk". I must note that her family is watching the trial and her "father's" face was slowly becoming more and more (I would say) 'neutral'. Garboil then said that when one of his mates (Baron Tullet) tried arguing with Penelope, she shot her crossbow at him which leads to people (mostly Marquis Ellen) saying "how can she do this?". So Garboil continues stating that she shot them one by one and they all fainted (of course, while Garboil fucker is stating his "memory", Penelope is putting together the clues in her head). It was then that the Duke (her father) objected saying that the crossbow was not used for killing but only had a fainting magic and losing short-term memory loss so how could Garboil say what he is saying rn if being shot would lose his memory. So, obviously, Garboil is flustered and 3 people walk in. One of them is Baron Tullet, straped to a wheelchair and Lady Kellin (one of the ladies that will be in a scene where before the hunting games began, she was having a tea party with other ladies "gossiping" about Penelope in front of her face when Penelope "threatened" to shoot them all to shut them up), and Countress Dorthea. Kellin starts testifying stating that Penelope revealed she had the magic to make them become idiots if she were to hit them with the crossbow. When the judge asked if she had any objections to her statement, Penelope declined which once again, causes people to say things like "the Duke needs to educate his kids" and "just like last year". Derick tries to make Penelope not seem like the bad guy but his defense was "She was just recently sick" (indicates that she is still guilty of her crimes) so Penelope cut him off. Penelope then starts her statement saying that it's sad Lady Kellin "sold herself" (otherwise known as she accepted a bribe/deal). Kellin is flustered so Penelope states that Kellin asked to see the crossbow at the gathering and she was making snide comments while laughing (it should be noted that Countress Dorthea is the one being roped into being a witness as Dorthea is kind of a pushover so Penelope uses her as someone to confirm her statement like "....right Countress" which causes Kellin to yell at Dorthea). Penelope then states that the bear was originally her prey but because it wouldn't pass out with her crossbow, the prince had to slash the bear's throat to help her (noting that if the bear was originally Garboil's prey w/7 mates, the bear would have different wounds for 7 different weapons). This leads to the judge looking at the bear's autopsy and confirming that it's throat was slashed. So Marquis Ellen yells a question like "why were you and the prince together then?" Which causes an uproar in the court. So Penelope had to lie saying that they had a secret meeting due to mutal feelings of romance (the Duke yells at this because he's surprised, all of her family members were). She continued stating that they encountered assassins so the prince was injured by them (poisoned) so they had to fall off a cliff together so Garboil asked why didn't she have injuries falling off a cliff and why would the prince be in a coma rn. She then offers evidence she collected from one assassin which causes the Marquis to be from relaxed to now panicking. The court is now loud again as "it seems she's telling the truth". Penelope then has the system have a pop-up stating like "<System> Defend the prince; find the owner of the evidence collected" (something along those lines) and with the pop-up, it had 4 names as a multiple choice. The evidence was a dagger, but the dagger had patterns on it along with a light blue silk thread that women give to people participating in the hunt, so Penelope pinpoint that it was Baron Tullet's dagger (who is Lady Kellin's fiancée). It was the dagger that stabbed the prince which gave him the poison. When it is revealed, people noticed the thread as Kellin was bragging about it at the tea gathering. Of course, Killin and the Marquis is denying it but Vuiner comes in apologizing for being late as he was going to be a witness. He states that the bear was Penelope's prey and he was about to walk up to her to help when he say the prince already walking up killing the bear. This leads to a HUGE uproar and people are saying that Baron Tullet was an assassin and Penelope noticed Derick's face which was angry. The judge also agrees with Vuiner's statement stating that Penelope is free to go but Baron Tullet, Viscount Garboil and Marquis Ellen (and the other 5 noble assassins) will be held accountable. So Penelope and Vuiner talk afterwards (thank you and all that) when Derick walks up thanking Vuiner for his testimony but he needs to get Penelope to have a "family meeting" but Penelope cuts him off saying that she doesn't want to go with Derick and talks to Vuiner about wanting to continue their conversation before Derick (rudely) interpreting them. Derick then gets mad at her asking her what she's doing and that there are eyes watching them but Penelope doesn't want to (for obvious reasons). Derick then says stuff like "there was a mistake in my opinion but giving your reputation, it was obvious what I would chose" but Penelope talks back saying that it was obvious what he was thinking of like "if you blame me, it's easier to solve" and "would you feel better if I was guilty?" Which causes him to retort and say "if you would have told me about the evidence yesterday, I would have solved it for you" but she laughs and replies back with something like "did you let me even talk yesterday?" And "are you doing to blame me for your actions too?" So he tried to apologize like "in order to get you out of jail quicker, I thought you pleading guilty would do it" so she says it's fine that she had to defend herself this way because she didn't expect him to help at all which causes Derick to have a guilty face. This allows her to walk past him to Vuiner because Derick wasn't holding her back anymore.
oof just realized this was alot, sorry
