haven't read past the first chap but... if it's a social norm to attend those school balls/events with your fiancé and she had to attend alone.. why does he gaf that she went to the market by herself if it's normal to go with your partner? why does he suddenly cares in this instance but not with the ball stuff? where she was embarrassed and made fun of because she was there alone. that actually makes me mad.. he's so unlikeable so far but it'll probably change based on the comments
