it’s so common to make these characters fit into simple flat tropes we see in this genre but for both Eris and Helena to be this dynamic and round enough is great because now it forces the readers to think a little more critically and really consider each side. It definitely humanizes them both. I also feel like if you’re pushing most of the blame on the male princes you’re kind of missing the point and directing the blame somewhere else. What those men do doesn’t change the fact that what the OG Eris did to Helena was horrible and that she’s not a good person, because like the New Eris said.. she’s not trying to fix that.
And I really like that about Eris, she’s not trying to be a better or nicer person, she’s not going to topple over and apologize for the things she’s done and she’s not going to pretend to like Helena and make fake peace. It’s bitchy but it’s grounded and it feels more real than almost half of these FL characters in these shoujo isekais.
I also really like how Helena as pushover as she is, knows that and still opts for kindness at the end of the day. It’s not the automatic “randomly nice girl lead thats not bitchy so she’s palatable for everyone” it’s a genuine wall and cover that she uses for herself but also it speaks on her character as well. There’s reasoning for the way she acts, and I really appreciate that because it makes her just as different.
I really like the mini introspection that’s done for these two girls and the more attention to detail for characters like Eris. While this may seem like bare minimum stuff, in a genre that pumps out below the minimum content and we all gobble it up anyway bc it’s entertaining.. This is what I consider great subversion.

I’m referring to the emotional baggage and helplessness that Yuri felt as being the ‘Heroine’ of the novel. Her life was a continuous cycle that she couldn’t break out of and in such just followed the flow of wherever the story took her. That is what’s similar here to me, lol. Yuri obviously had less autonomy but the emotions are the same not the scenarios.

this is a complete misconstruing of my point lol. i didn’t even say anything about hating her trauma so idk where you got that from. to elaborate, relationships with language barriers in medias with a romantic plot usually consist of infantilizing one partner in the dynamic. it insinuates that there’s a power imbalance because of the barrier but that doesn’t have to be the case.
the FL is not incompetent, she’s scared and confused but as we’ve seen with her flashbacks she’s still capable of doing something. this is completely thwarted when she’s in the midst of Kali and they insist that she’s a weak, frail, and pale beauty that must be protected by her knight in shining plot armor. this dynamic has nothing to do with her trauma, this is just them trying to amp some Born Sexy Yesterday trope mechanism. It’s very reminiscent of romance YA novels. again, if you like it you have every right to this is just my personal opinion.
also you keep equating her childish antics with trauma saying that she has trauma but the scenes where she acts childish almost never have anything to do with her PTSD or any traumatic breakdown. me stating that she’s acting like a child, puppy, or a younger sibling isn’t really an opinion the webtoon shows deliberate moments where she whines like a puppy to kali, or eagerly drinks her water like a child and is softly scorned by kali. these are examples of that behavior, that has nothing to do with her trauma at hand and just the relationship between her and kali.
lastly, language barrier in stories is an obstacle but these two have not done enough to even help understand each other. the story consistently shows panels of the FL literally saying she has no clue what he’s saying because he is not trying to find a middle ground. it’s not impossible for them to communicate, they could set “rules”, do specific hand gestures to indicate something, teach each other small phrases too, heck, enunciate their names to each other or draw something on the ground with some stick to get a start but instead we get mewls and whimpers from the ‘mute’ FL and the ML just having full blown comvos in her face knowing she can’t understand much.
and the horny bit... its a 19+ webnovel they’re attraction for one another is going to be mutual regardless it doesn’t matter whose hornier more or not when they endgame will most likely be the same lol. also frollo is from a completely different medium with a different circumstance and is an antagonist of the story don’t really think him as an example means much as a comparison to kali.
sorry I didn't see where she act like a child or "whine" like a puppy or drink her water like a baby etc...the only part I remember she whine is when she was desperate to find help and someone that will not fucking rape her or harm her. this is mostly Kali POV and from his side that how he sees her. of course it doesn't mean he is right since I don't see any romance between them yet. from her pov she just using him for comfort/protection, and it totally makes sense in her situation to lean on him. she might have acted the part since she can't really "talk" to him or get what he wants and she seems so tired to bother.

I agree it was annoying about his horny pov but when I think about his history it actually makes sense to his character. he lives base on denying himself any kind of need for sexual pleasure, which is crazy. they say the more you deny something, the more you will want it. like some sort of compensation, it very interesting.
the opposite, Frollo is a great example of how much people can live with denying things, both of them are actually very similar even he is not "hero" of the story, Frollo is an easy example of how twisted denying can get in a man mindset. and the way Kali literally blame her for being attracted to her physically - like dude it was just a kiss, where are you taking this ╮(￣▽￣)╭
