Ok, hear me out. Jihyun was toxic af and deserved what happened in the story. HOWEVER, this doesn't mean that the what if chapters are unnecessary. These chapters are really important imo cause I take it that Jihyun regrets what happened and is currently in denial. I take it as him dreaming about what could've happened instead if he was more honest of his feelings and didn't do all those fcked up shit just bc he was jealous or felt like he was being led on.
Because he regrets it, it seems that he is going through a character development and a character changing from "fcking scum go die" to "asshole" is quite nice. So if you deem the latest chapters unnecessary, please do think of it from this perspective.
