this is a geniune masterpiece. beautiful ending. beautiful everything.
i loved the empress and emperors story especially. very fitting that the crown prince ends up following the same path as the emperor... always yearning for the empress's love but will never have it. looks like an even worse fate though since helena seems to be secured in her political position and would probably be a more competent ruler than the prince in the long run.
every single big to small moment in this story was beautiful crafted. like even the small gestures were just.... this whole story is a masterpiece.
it is especially gutwrenching the little habit that eris picked up of always caressing anakhins face. are you kidding me? thats so beautiful!
and i love the fact that even though many of the characters didnt like each other, they were still able to have complex relationships. it was not static like other typical villainess stories where "oh i hate you bc you are a marquis's daughter!" this whole story had substance. and never once did i despise helena, if anything, i empathized with her the same way eris did.
i said it before, but the empress is definitely one of the strongest characters for me. she was incredibly realistic. she knew she was petty, and becoming a monster, and chose to stick to her morals and never wavered in her ambitions. she was an amazing parallel and foil to eris, who similarly kept to her ambitions and morals. her ending where she never let go and cursed the emperor to the end. it wouldnt have felt real if she suddenly showed remorse.
helenas death? beautiful. cinematic. it felt *earned*. it didnt feel like it came out of nowhere. it didnt feel like helena was a "angelic female lead". it felt like, as she said, she genuinely forgave eris. and from a place of love, would never blame her. it all just felt so real.
anakhin? need i say anything about how beautiful of a character he is. he has clear ambitions and loyal to a fault. i despise characters that are written to be loyal yet doubt their masters judgement. he let eris take control of herself and her destiny to the end. he was unwavering support and love. they fully deserve each other.
i was so happy when he told off the other two """male leads""" for refusing to give her death when that was all eris ever asked for. she had made it clear time and time and time again. i wish we could get just a bit more of him and eris's time together in the modern world. even a small sketch of them on vacation or wearing the engagement rings.... either way 100000/10 would not read again bc id be too emotionally distraught (again)
