I generally agree with both things you said, but I think the context is important.
My entire family was in my sister's business when she was in a toxic relationship and too afraid to leave. My dude here can't compare to that human trash pile, but as the sister, If I'd found out that she had to give up on her dreams and has been neglected by her husband, I'd be extremely plssed as well... And also maybe in her business. I'd also consider it important, that she knows about everything. Even if they patch things up, If there are secrets or lies, it's bound to come up again.
Now about the romance part. I think the problem ist that he did it exactly how he read it in the book. He is desperate and wants to do everything right, so it's understandable that he does it like it is in the book. But from the outside, it looks as if he was just copying the ML by saying the lines that fit. In a way acting. That is kinda shady.
I hope he gets the opportunity to explain His side, but I do get the sisters here
