The authors note is right, there’s no way this could work as a movie. That aside, I like the story, it always shocking to me when you remember this was written nearly 40 years ago. It’s not that long ago compared to adaptations of say Ranpo’s stuff, but it goes to show how well the story holds up. Ayatsuji, the inspiration for ayatsuji in a series about characters named after authors, writes a novel about characters named after authors
