because if you plug your device to charge somewhere but the power supply has the wrong voltage & isn't compatible, your device WILL work for a while, but ultimately using the wrong adaptor/socket/charger long-term will gradually break down your device (i.e. bloated batteries, lower charge capacity, power immediately runs out) until it no longer turns on, and at worst it will eventually explode and start a fire.
