ending felt so incomplete and rushed, did the author just not know what to do with this midway thru?

read the novel and I forgot a few minor details but this is more or less what happens
chp 33 and beyond:
- they have a shit ton of sex while high
- mc starts living w ml, ml is even more obsessed atp and watching him thru cams all the time
- somewhere during this time to the end of the story, mc and ml’s first meeting is revealed. In the past, mc was bullied by other teens in the mansion, ml stops them (my memory is foggy on this one ngl but it was smth like that)
- when they go to the mansion to visit mc’s father again, he’s found dead after the doctor and his associates had ran away w some money and abandoned the patients
- mc basically goes crazy after this, hallucinating things and even losing parts of his memory bc of the grief. ml doesn’t know what to do and more or less either acts violently w mc or manipulâtes him
- when mc starts to forget his memories of ml, ml gets so mad he forces mc back into his apt in the mansion and doesn’t visit again for days
- mc goes even crazier, thinking ml abandoned him and tries to commit suicide. ml, who realized what mc might do alone, runs back to the apt, finds mc’s body and takes him to a hospital outside
- when mc wakes up, he has amnesia; ml uses this chance to brainwash mc, manipulating him into thinking they had always been a couple and that mc’s time at the red mansion never happened
- ml eventually takes mc to a therapist to get professional help, where it’s revealed mc never lost his memories and has been tricking ml the whole time. ml changes therapists every time mc shows signs of “improvement” (or when mc says they’re wack idk I forgot)
- mc teases ml by making him think he’s regaining his memory, such as writing in his notebook and hiding it when ml is around. ml is so stressed about this he hovers over mc 24/7, reading his notebook entries, and keeping things that may remind mc of his past out of sight
- in the end, mc never ends up admitting his lie, and ml continues to obsess over mc and his memories, knowing that even if mc was lying, he wouldn’t care regardless and still be with him
- ml catches doctor, locking him in the hospital to die while the mansion gets demolished (I think?)
- mansion gets turned into a casino/hotel thing
- mc and ml get married
- mc becomes the boss of the hotel only in title (ml is the actual boss behind the scenes)
