I know that it's normal for some manhwas to have changes in art style, but I kind of prefer the art style from Backlight before . When I reread the first few chapters, the characters looked so mature even though they were still in high school—but now, they look so youthful.

I think it's a response really to that argument that BL is practically shojou but fetishized coz the bottom's always so feminine (without realizing that there are actually men and actual gays irl who are like that lol). The hype's basically for uke that looks and acts like seme, and though I do enjoy a lot of works with this thing, on another hand, it can get icky when the bottom's design is similar to those exagerrated FLs in hentai with airbags for boobs, another thing is when they are written to act like the toxic semes in typical BLs (distant, short tempered, violent, etc.)- the character's still unlikeable for me, doesn't matter if he's taking it up the ass now.
It really just depends on each person's liking tbh. Some enjoy and some don't, just wish that those who have different taste don't tryna push their ideals onto others. Thats true crazy shit
well isn't that just a given tho? everyone will always have a preference, some not up to your liking and some are. It's just a matter of delivery and calling out what really stinks.
Take full volume- the bottom's design is not really up to my liking but the work is pretty good and I still managed to finish it, same with some of bwat works- not my thing in terms of character design but the delivery is really good and I still end up savoring it too.
There are just works out there that are unsalvageable and are really just the artist's diarrhea of their demented kinks-- nowadays I find it to be more on the works with buff uke where the bottom's exaggerated in the chest and ass areas (again, not all) or treating the seme as nothing more than their dog, not a beloved pet, a dog. It's giving trying-hard-to-be-Bara-but-make-it-non-hairy-instead. This is inverted to the shitfest of years ago where it's the twinks that barely looks like dudes being assaulted and graped throughout the plot coz that's what keeps their creator hard or smthn (still seeing this too, but not as bad as before when this type of crap is practically your only option).
