I'd hardly say Jean's over protective since, if she'd sooner or later get targeted by the tyrannical emperor, then if she happened to get taken, tortured and interrogated she might be forced to snitch on his guild's involvement, getting Jean killed along with many others from the guild.

She doesn't like Edgar in a romantic way. She was first attracted to Aru at first glance but soon formed a sort of enemity with him so I guess she doesn't see him as a romantic partner too
