It's just a very popular trope for BL consumers in Japan. They like the cute, pure and ditzy type. It's very uh... classic for lack of a better word. But basically they don't really care for realism, they care more about "moe."

You forget that these characters are at the oldest 22 (although it’s most likely 20 which is the youngest age one can be as a sex worker in Sakura’s case). Most 22 year olds aren’t that mature. Senri admits he’s very shy and very inexperienced with love and sex.

I didn’t forget that. I know they’re about my age. But 20 year olds can be shy, inexperienced, and immature without it feeling like they’re 10. No one our age really knows anything about love and sex, we don’t act like that though. I know it’s a common trope but my point still stands. This character behaves like his under socialized with his peers (said peers being other college students) and therefore socially and emotionally stunted. I think a lot of people forget that maturity is a partially social skill, it’s too simple to say people just automatically mature as they age, there are many factors. One because society creates an environment that incentivizes adults to behave like adults. Part of that is sharing experiences with people your age so you can wise up together. If someone has no friends, never goes out, and is babied by their mom and dad for 30 years what maturity would they act like? I’ll tell you this, it would not be 30. Less extreme but in the same way this mc is my age but is missing a core part of development so he just feels way younger than me. He can have his little romance or whatever, good for him, but he needs real life friends bad.

Okane mo Ai mo Mitsugasete No.1 Host no Kaikan Lessons Has a similar premise but to me the main character just feels my age. He’s also inexperience and “cute” but there is some nuances that make him feel young but not like middle/high school young. If I was in class with someone like him I wouldn’t be surprised

what even is a proper adult human being? how should an adult human being act? he is normal, he is trying, he is happy, he blushes, he got a crush, his crush is acting like his boyfriend so he is happy? like i dont see anything wrong? does not mean he is in college now he cant act like that. he is not even bothering other people with how he acts because he is super shy but he wants to push himself to try and not waste this chance with sakura, like let him live. we dont need to live by with ur standard of how to be an adult human being.

No one has to appeal to what I think an adult is. I can’t force you to do or be anything. And as I said before it’s not about him being shy or the fact he has a baby face. It’s slight nuances in his character that make me feel uncomfortable. Like he doesn’t have any friends to help him navigate through this and it shows. Like he’s not just inexperienced in love and sex but more platonic things as well. Now, if you think not having friends isn’t gonna affect how you socialize in a negative way or you believe he doesn’t show signs of that then we’ll just have to disagree and that’s fine. But that’s how I read his character, because I acted a bit like him when I was socially isolating. And with my perspective, it’s great that his taking initiative to open up romantically but I look at it and am seeing that he might end up with his boyfriend being his only close friend or his boyfriends friends being his only friends and that’s a dangerous position to be in if something were to happen in the relationship.

ohh i get what ur saying now, u sounded so mean at first (for me at least HAHAHHA) trying to stop people from finding happiness at things they enjoy, especially that i find the mc just trying things and braving himself for the first time to not let this opportunity with his crush slide.

and the mc is just like truly a litol child trying to navigate adult life without any ropes to help and guide him so i now understand the sentiment. ive read ur other replies as well

i focused too much on how he is being insulted (mainly the pick me energy comment before urs) for being just so overwhelmed and expressive of the happiness he is experiencing for getting outside his comfort zone

I should have definitely had a more comforting tone in my original comment, my bad. But yeah, it’s great that he’s getting out there and is so enthusiastic about the current relationship he has with the love interest. But that can be a double edge sword. This probably won’t happen in the story but if the love interest goes too far in a way the mc doesn’t like would the mc have the agency to stop it. As in would he feel like he had the right too? Does he have a community that could help him figure out some red flags or green flags about his partner he wouldn’t notice by himself. If the relationship isn’t for him would he be able to leave or are too many of his social needs met in that relationship.

I know this is a fluffy romance and they’ll probably be in love forever and ever amen but I can’t help but think about these things as I read this stuff. I find it way cuter to be in a relationship with someone because they are genuinely perfect for you instead of it being because they were the first to notice you exist.

i agree with youuuu! irl this is really dangerous for mc esp that he is so overwhelmed with everything!! and as someone struggling to write in english i like how you convey ur thoughtsss and explain things so well HAHHAHAH i want genuine love like that tooo, that's my problem with some of the mangas esp when they have an mc who is socially isolated and awkward then an ml who is very experienced, there is an imbalance. im reading horegusuri wo nonda supadari ga yabasugimasu now and ur points are just so valid

Thank you for saying I can convey my words well though I did mess up here and there. Instead of just saying he acts 10 I should have said his lack of agency makes him seem way younger than he was and I dislike the trope that casually puts shy people in an unhealthy social dynamic. This was not me trying to say shy people act like children or to demean socially anxious adults. I apologize that it came off that way.
