okay i reread the very first panel again and here’s my shinpei theory, as if he had written the letter to satoko:
“women are property and exchanged like objects and gifts”
this could be talking about the prostitutes being paid and “exchanged” for safety on the island through sex(not marriage as we all originally thought)
“don’t get married”
shinpei was probably taught this at a young age from the men on the island since it would only be to a prostitute or he’s just too crazy and will bring them harm(?), satoko definitely always wanted marriage but this part was worded so either of them could have said it
“and yet, i did it myself. i fell in love with someone i shouldn’t have. i was very happy”
so the middle part could also be older shinpei saying he shouldn’t have fallen in love with satoko, should’ve just helped her escape the island and left him to find a “suitable” marriage partner but instead he kept her their to fall in love with an assassin that was completely inappropriate to her family requirements

plus it wouldn’t be as dramatic if she died since she’s already dying anyway. now shinpei dying would kick us all in the nuts and our souls would fly away

omg give up the second lead already, he’s turning pathetic atp and the story should move on. i really do like the dude but the aurhor is pushing his character’s feelings too much so he’s just an eyesore now
i’m at the point now that even if he becomes a twink he needs to be saved at all costs. no matter what, no matter how, just end his pain and bring him back so the prince can save him like he saved the prince
uhm not expecting THAT to be the season opener but okay i’ll roll with it and see if the plot comes back? basically punched me in the face as a reminder that this is a BL with a small side of great plot i guess

why are people getting angry at the same when he’s actually done nothing wrong? he’s never made the mc any promises about being in a relationship, and the mc is just super naive and innocent so yeah ofc he’d think that. but the seme does make it clear their relationship will never go beyond what they have now(not in a harsh way imo). tbh i think he’s treating the mc really well so far. he’s been attentive and kind to him
