The reason is cause she's super hot and he likes hot maids so his mum hired her for him but he kept tryna fuck her but she always declined when she wasn't meant to so then Petra took her in and always beat her up. Apolonia came across her one day all beat up and treated her and warned her to stay away from the emperors garden thingy cause that's where she could get raped and no one would ever find out about it. (he can't force himself on her in the palace) cause anyone can find out and his reputation would be ruined.
but on apolonias birthday he forces her into the garden where apolonia catches them and his reputation sort of takes a bad turn and then apolonia takes her in as her maid.
that's how she becomes her maid.
also there's Uriel
he's the silver haired guy in the main photo. he's hired to assassinate her through Petra and he's been abused his whole life, but when he actually goes to kill her apolonia and her butler were already onto the plan and when he hesitates they stop him when she's pretending to sleep. So they get him on their side but they have to get rid of a mark that'll kill him if he doesn't return to his owner (the guy who put the park on him is Petras lacky and the mark is there so that the longer they don't return the more it hurts to the point they'd rather kill themselves then live with the pain) Apolonia gets rid of the mark through this wizard person I think.
yh this is the first time I decided to read the light novel only cause I never though they'd actually continue the manga after the promotional chapter they made so I decided to read it and it was the best choice ever. the writing it great and I'll probs read more light novels. Also just a tad bit gutted that the art style isn't the same as the promotional chapter (which is now been deleted).

from what I've read Petra doesn't plan on betraying her brother, mainly cause this world is mainly patriarchal (men hold the power) she knows she can't run the Leifer family by herself even though she's on par with her brother in terms of smarts if not more cause the emperor is a political position and women don't really have any say in that so she has no other choice but to help her family if she wants to succeed. In this world if you want to succeed and your a women you have to help you family and when you marry you help your husbands family cause your livelihood depends on the males success.
also apologias half brother Paris isn't on her side in fact he sort of helps petras son (Gareth, the guy who tried to rape Adriana) he sort of helps him in that. well not really but at the same time he does. he deffo doesn't try to stop him cause he doesn't care what happens to her. in fact the bro and him are close friends.
also Paris was raised by their father so he was raised believing he's gonna be the next emperor so yah he deffo isn't on her side
