when they first met after 13 years, the song wwx plays on the flute is the song lan zhan wrote for him 13 years before. the song is going to appear soon in the cave
well, i forgot which one im going by, but apparently he played a song on his flute that only him and wei wuxian knew.
So, that's basically how lan zhan knew i think.
