nothing is ever that deep, but my blood pressure has spiked so much from the MC's constant weeping and shambolic logic that i have to say something.

i picked this up for the revenge plot and for up to the first third of all available chapters i was holding on to the hope that beyond all the incessant shifting of goalposts and self-sabotage (i.e. bouts of being completely helpless and collapsing and crying and sporadically spewing secrets like a neon breadcrumb trail for his target to clue in on), it would finally get good. it did not.

i persisted because of sunk cost fallacy and i reckon i've been soundly rewarded with the discovery of a character that's made it to the top 3 of all fictional characters that i hold in the highest disdain.

it feels like he booked his ticket to korea after planning for three seconds total, probably through a haze of tears, driven by motivations that are so half-baked as to be, metaphorically, a steak so undercooked the cow is still fucking mooing.

is it spinelessness, stupidity, or stockholm syndrome that compels him to simply accept every bullshit development as something he can't do anything about except to keep his head down and hope that if he goes along with it he'll succeed somehow???? i understand that he is in love or whatever but holy shit the amount of waffling and meek -ing that occurs is actually astounding. probably there are carpets that are liable to be stepped on less than he.

at this juncture i'm going to assure you that i'm not one to confound fiction and reality, and therefore i will now shift from shittalking a fictional entity to expressing a personal opinion on the work itself. my greatest gripe is that if the writers wanted to do dark — as they did with the ML character — they could have pushed it a lot further with the MC. make them both psychos, not one a deranged sadist and the other a poor little soft-hearted (haha literally bc he has heart issues) fainting goat damsel in distress. i'd have liked to see more desperation written into the MC's actions to see his goals of revenge/escaping through, for more impactful tension (e.g. why wait to get fired or submit your resignation if you're leaving for good? just leave). i can't root for a character that seems to just roll over and show their belly at every obstacle, especially when their hands don't seem tied. that's just my opinion, though — i read for revenge and didn't get it.

this is harada's thirteen-times-removed cousin of a friend's friend's distant aunt's niece's friend from temu. DNF, sorry

The novel just sent me over the edge I was so frustrated. Such one dimensional characters my god , the crazy stays crazy, and the whiny stays whiny. No dynamic development of characters or even the plot.

gosh...i'm genuinely sorry to hear that.

i'm generally not familiar with novel-to-art adaptation in terms of how much the original story is retained, so i was hoping that there were nuances missed or something...yikes.

i hope you are healed by something else you read
