really, don't drop this just because of jeanette. i mean, i dislike her since her naïvety annoys me, but honestly she doesn't deserve all this hate, like, she treated athy like a true sister, took her in when she was wandering the streets, and truly longed for love since she felt like an onlooker at the alpheus residence... i still don't like her character but i can't understand why everyone hates her SO MUCH.
She really did nothing she was aware of that hurt anyone around her- srsly, jeanette is an orphan who was taken in by whitey (for his schemes) and is just a dense and innocent girl who has no ulterior motives... like, think at it from jeanette's point of view. She loves claude and athy so much-- her only family, and is overjoyed to even spend a little time with them.
It feels like athy and jeanette have switched roles from the novel-- in the novel, athy was the starstruck girl desperate for love, but now it's jeanette. So can i bet if the novel was real and had a comments section, people would hate the novel!athy for getting in the way of jeanette and claude's time together, just like they are now.
