furuya get crushed by his own greed therefore straining his form too much resulting in injury while sawamura at that time keep honing all pf his breaking balls which is TONS of them and also make his fastball faster hence why he get waaay more skillful and also his leadership as an ace pitcher is shining especially where miyuki absent and sawamura take care of 1st year catcher.. thats why sawamura get the ace number while furuya get 11
may i know which chapter it started? and is it already animated?
in anime u can watch act 2.. around episode 14/15 (i forgot) its the part where seidou is on spring tournament against ichidai sankou.. thats the turning point of sawamura ace oozing out but i reccomend u to watch act 2 from the moment where 1st year came which is around episode 5 or so cuz even then sawamura started to change especially how he act as a pitcher and the ichidai match is basically the 1st climax of his blossoming persona as an ace. BUT i am personally eventhough i love the anime i still cameback to the manga cuz it just more hype in my opinon .. if u read the manga DnA act 2 u the ichidai vs seidou match where sawamura kickass is on chapter 42 and the chapter where the first year started to come if i am not mistaken is around chapter 10 or so.. after ichidai vs seidou match there will be another 2 match that cemented his position as an ace eventhough it was just practice game but their rival is both are koushien regular soo he get his momemt a bit especially where one of the match miyuki is absent so sawamura must lead the 1st year catcher by himself
and also u said u watched season 1 right? idk if u watch season 2 yet but in season 2, sawamura growth is pretty amazing since that season he basically got cure of his ptsd and also learn few new pitch that basically become his main skills in the act 2/season 3.. but u might get a few pissed moment since in season 2 the new coach is basically fawning over furuya A LOT untill sawamura at the end proved to him that he is a strong pitcher.
