As someone who has grown up around animals and currently have a cat. Reading the situation the best option would actually be getting a hamster in my opinion. This is because it's affordable, the cage is easy to clean, and you can keep it your room with no issues. While say a cat is much more expensive but really the main thing is cat's can't handle......
