Actually he did in chapter 37 they don’t go into do deft about it but if it is said they dressed her like his ex ( looks like someone hasn’t been reading/paying attention)

I thank you for correcting me, but as I you too have not been reading/paying attention. It is said in the following chapters how he feels:

Ch.4: he says he isn't interested in falling in love & the many marriages proposals he rejected
Ch.36 : ex-GF mentioned; Marquis Dallia's daughter
Ch.41 a lady is mention to be infatuated with Alphonse.

And so forth, I based my response on how he is portrait with his aloof personality with every women he ever crossed paths. And after he confessed his love and his love was reciprocate.
