Not caring about him is one thing, he's a side character and besides little snippets of his relationship with the protagonist's little brother and the whole creepy thing with the rich woman we barely know anything about the guy, but hating him? Yeah people tend to hate victims for whatever reason. More and more we stray from media literacy to people thinking things are balck and white once more.
