Why did Layard marry Louise if she was a commoner? Did he actually love her in the past? If so, what made him fall out of love and pursue other women? Like why not just remain single if he wanted to just have short term relationships? And why not divorce if he doesn't love her anymore? Hopefully this get's explained, because so far I'm confused by why they need to still be married, or even why he married her in the first place.
Did I miss the Christmas part of the story? Unsure why the title is called contract Christmas bride, nothing really Christmassy about this.
