The dynamic between the characters would have honestly stayed the same even if he was aged up from high schooler to college student. There was no reason to make him underaged and it just added an ick factor to it that you have to ignore in order to enjoy the rest. Because honestly a 38 year old telling a kid he's loved him since his freshman year (i.e 15) before they have sex for the first time is weird ah no matter how you throw it.
I tried to like this season so badly. I even went out of my way to buy the chapters to support the team. But I can't do this anymore. It feels like someone's forcing them to continue the story and they're just throwing out whatever comes to mind. Nothing that I loved from the first two seasons is here. The well-written plot, fleshed out characters, beautiful designs...all of it feels like it's gone downhill and I have no attachment to what's happening so I'm not seeing the point. It honestly makes me sad, but I still wish the team success.
Chapters 22 - 50 are in the PRESENT TIME. Zhan Zheng Xi is in College and Jian Yi, who has been missing for 3 years, is now back and apparently living with him(?) as he makes up high school. The only background that we're given is that Jian Yi went missing the 2nd day of his and Zhan's first year of high school.
Chapters 51+ are set in the PAST. They're a flashback to Zhan's and Jian Yi's third year of Middle School (yes they are 15 and middle schoolers so calm your horny down a notch lol). We see the build up of the friendship between the four boys and their individual relationships. Everything we're reading now is building up to their middle school graduation and eventually the day that Jian Yi disappears.
EXCEPTIONS -- Some of the SPECIAL Chapters, such as Ch. 224 - The Christmas Special, are also set in the PRESENT. Which is why we see that the boys look a bit different, and in this specific chapter Jian Yi mentions that everyone else is in college but him (bc he has to make up high school).
As things have developed I'm sure the creator probably didn't realize this would be such a BIG project or so popular so they've probably have added and developed things in the PAST chapters, that don't translate well to the PRESENT chapters ( such as Zhan's Present personality in the early chapters being a bit more snappy and irritable, while his current Past personality actually shows him be a bit more laid back and mellow). DON'T look too much into it. Just enjoy things as they develop. The author may go back and revise the Present chapters to match things up a bit more.
You're welcome. And we don't get much insight into what happened between He Tian and Mo during those 3 years, but from the specials it looks like they're still on good terms. It's probably a similar situation where He Tian has been out of the country for awhile and has returned.
And yeah I think with Zhan and Jian Yi, their relationship had to have a restart because of Jian Yi's sudden disappearance. I'm sure Zhan was hurt by that. But YES he definitely still have romantic feelings for him. But they're once again seem to be taking things a bit slow. Here are a list of the Present/Special chapters (I think these are all of them) -- 68 -69, 224, 271, 313 (All of these are Christmas Special Chapters), 230 and 276 are Valentine Special chapters.
You mean from the official art? Yep i've seen it. Fans have speculated their wedding rings (Or i guess more accurately "promise" rings since China isn't currently about that gay marriage life). The only thing with the official art is that we can't tell how far in the future they are since many of them don't correlate with the Present Day chapters. But one thing for sure, those two are definitely going to end up together <3
The character development, story building, and overall plot really makes this one of the best BL mangas I've ever read. Even if you didn't like BL you could enjoy this just as a supernatural/fantasy manga. As the story develops you can tell the mangaka put so much time and thought into the plot and characters. This manga really just lives rent free in my mind.
This is one of the manga series that is so artistically captivating and has a great plotline, but falls short of its potential. Honestly didn't care for the way Shizu and Hiraa's relationship was quickly railroaded together. No real development for two characters that have been friends their entire lives. She could have done a lot more with their storyline and expanded on their transition from friends to lovers (or even just created a spin off for them). But it just seems like she wanted to get their story quickly out of the way.
Since this comes right after the dramatic turnaround of Haru's and Akihiko's storyline, which came across as more developed but still very cliche (bc of course we can't have a BL without some form of sexual assault/ dubious consent scene crammed in), and is only compounded by Ue's and Mafuyu's extremely slow moving and exhaustingly dramatic romantic development, the story flickers out towards the end. This series would have honestly benefited from having a separate writer as many mangas are starting to do, and giving more time to flesh out the characters through more real world events, not just through their interactions and ongoing internal struggles. Either way, this story is an ok read, but doesn't match the hype that the anime has given it.
