i think he has problems confronting his own feelings of rejection or loneliness. he’d rather push people away first and control how they’re in his life, rather than be the one abandoned again. considering how easily his dad picked the “better twin” and how they didn’t keep in touch… it hurt him on a fundamental level more than what we saw. and then with ml, he was mistaken as that very twin and probably feels some type of complex from that. he wasn’t chosen for himself, but instead the image his brother made for them
he’s probably wanting to feel some sort of power by being mean to his brother and the ml. if he can choose when to see ml on his own terms, he’ll feel less awful about their entire situation. if this theory is right, i think the author wrote his pain in a perfect way. he’s frustrating and not making good decisions right now because he’s hurt
even though he created an unhealthy, emotional co-dependent relationship with young winter, he never took advantage of him in a tainted way. with all his hardships, he found solace in winters childlike innocence and ability to accept anything about him. do i still feel bad for winter and see him as a victim of grooming? yes
but raymond was habitually drugged and sexually abused out of his mind, and their small time together came to a halt after realizing winter was in as much danger as he was in. i can but also can’t blame him for abandoning the kid. i obviously don’t think the way adult winter treats current raymond is okay. but i thought he would’ve figured out on his own by now that raymond deserves someone who doesn’t do the very things those past bad men would do

the problem is not having the toxicity, it’s the toxicity having no basis! caesar is an IDEA of a mafia love interest having trauma, with horrible execution and build up. there was nothing that drew us or leewon to him, and he remains a concept of very surface level “obsessive, bad boy”. never did we see his background, psychology, and thoughts told in explicit detail. a walk through of a persons trauma in a toxic romance is extremely important since it gives readers context for his perception of the world and lets us understand who he is and why he’s so drawn to leewon. it was a lazy attempt at a dark romance, but the lack of… everything made this a hard read that people glaze because their inexperience of good/great dark romance in general
people are conflating caesars characterization with the semi-vulnerable moments in sex scenes. they are not deep individuals and the writing falls off by using their consensual sex as the only driver for their relationship. sex tells a story, but it doesn’t make up for the emotional connection needed to spark any chemistry or longing in the first place. the animalistic desires weren’t given reason, and the love they have for each other wasn’t expanded on. i hate how much readers excuse his actions when being in the mafia and traumatized isn’t a solid reason for why he did them- we NEED to know him as a person instead of seeing only leewons decisions and his overly forgiving tendencies for him. i despise this story for being a popular representation of toxic mafia romance when the story is literal shit from the butt. a lot of yall needed a wattpad phase instead of starting off so strong with mangago
