the last two chapters of the raws finally updated for the ending of the side story. so this is a huge spoiler for the end, not for the next chapter
(=^▽^)
in the last chapter EUNSUNG MEETS SOOHYUN’S YOUNGER SISTER AND OLDER BROTHER AHH. it seemed like an accident that he met them (assuming) after eunsung drove him home at night. both of them stepped out the car and talked outside the house, but then the sister walked in on them followed by the bro. eun seems really curious about the sister but then kinda surprised at the older brother. i don’t know the context of what they talked about, i was too lazy to translate bc most of the time it’s so bad and butchered but the talk was very short and lighthearted. the story ends after the siblings go inside and then soohyun/eun hug followed by them saying their goodbyes :’)
side note!! the author knows what the readers want bc i wanted the three of them to interact so bad!! can’t wait for this authors next work
this season is focusing more on sol and ian’s backstory and it’s not a bad thing. this whole webtoon has BEEN drama focused > romance so i don’t get the hate for this season when it’s literally so crucial to the story. we are supposed to see how sol/brian built the present kingdom, what caused brian to die, how did they become so important to each other, why was ian kidnapped by the dragon brother from the enemy nation, etc. like they didn’t just happen to meet and fell in love, they were LIFE COMPANIONS from the achievements they’ve completed together and were significant to so many people by what they’ve done. their presence brought peace to the land, however an event with their involvement caused the deadly tension between the two present enemy countries now. it wouldn’t make sense for the flashback to be less than 15 chapters, the author can only cover so much in such a short deadline (weekly chapters!!). like it makes me a lil sad for the author that’s these are interesting/necessary chapters about the characters but there’s complaints from people who only want romance; it’s a beautiful historic/action webtoon that is able to show such an admirable and respectful type of love between the main characters. pls show love to how well written these characters!!
We are not haters or anything and we dont get any sort of thrill for saying things as it is.
For any work there is a 'flow'. Majority of us lost it with the current plotline especially since the past 5 chapters or so. Like you said the author wanted to explore more on Brian and Sol's past. But there is a point when info becomes too much or becomes too tiresome/repetitive to follow. Obviously its not the author's fault, it's the reader's mindset. But neither of them are wrong and we aint haters because of it. It's an honest opinion.
i respect your opinion! ty for explaining ur perspective. but i do disagree on some of them and will elaborate why, to explain the reason i called some readers haters
- the backstory doesn’t feel repetitive imo. not sure which part you’re referencing so im generalizing the main points. the conflicts of the villiage chief and villiagers was building up and had to be gradual in order for them to gather resentment towards their leaders and spark the whole revolt. we see multiple times where the chief violated the people’s rights, was scolded, but ignored brian’s warning and now not only is brian responsible for the nation’s economics but a whole ass shit show caused by greedy, powerful people. these things needed to be shown so readers could see how impactful brian was to sol and the people on his side still alive, and why they are so devoted to a special person like him. he was basically their first king, but acted behind the scenes (sol was the face of the nation). it also showed how deep brian’s “control” was, and the chief didn’t like it and wanted free reign for himself rather than the fair and prosperous nation he was building
- the actions behind building a nation, also not repetitive but can be boring: showed how influential brian was to his people, literally sparked trade there, created jobs for people, made their official currency, had fair taxes implemented- just to name a few things he did. this background info is relatively new but i can understand why it’s not interesting to readers if u were only seeking a light romance- however this story has been anything but a slice of life romance and was constantly engaging the readers about diplomatic topics even in season one (the human trafficking/the nations involvement in it/brian ignoring his duties for the nation’s safety/constantly talking about politics). these things were focused on to show brian was the foundation for what the nation is today, like he had his hands on EVERY aspect of it and created it with no prior experience/schooling before
there’s more but this paragraph getting long as hell
- circling back to the reason why i called some reader’s haters: i know it’s personal opinion and preference but they can be wrong in the context that ppl have the inaccurate expectations for a story when it has been going with its own flow. to compare, it reminds me of when people cook recipes then add a random ingredient bc they felt like it so it ruins the whole meal but they go on to blame the person that made the recipe. when some readers create a narrative about the story’s progression, its odd to blame the author. it’d be understandable if they said “i thought it was going to be a story about an angsty romance with an outcast and dragon but it gets so much deeper” people instead say “this story is boring and i want these flashbacks to be over bc i only care about ian and his romance”
like do you kind of see where im getting at? /pos
the story was never only about romance, it always involved deep corruption in these nations and the biggest parallel was ian and brian trying to solve them alone. but where sol wasn’t able to be there for brian as much shown in this season, he’s making it up with ian and taking the reign by also taking care of brian’s former nation- a huge sign of love and devotion for the soul that brian/ian share. when readers hate on a story but don’t take the time to read between the lines (ex: saying rhetorical things like “why do we have to know this info” instead of genuinely asking out of curiosity to connect the dots) + harshly criticize writing that’s been following the storyline, it becomes hateful rather than constructive. not that people have to have some insightful take all the time, but imo that’s what makes them a hater- they blame the author for their interpretation of the story and think these chapters have no use for the story as a whole when it does!!
Actually your response is a wonderful example. Things could have been summarized better. This is a form of entertainment and that requires pacing to keep interest. See Lord of the Rings for a story with immense back story, but had to be trimmed to make a good read. The author is making a common mistake that a good editor should have stopped.
We can appreciate a work and still acknowledge its flaws.
don’t know if i emphasized this, but the story flowed to me because it needs these stepping stones to build a bridge. if the author only said “brian was the leader behind the scenes, creating a nation with his two hands with sol by his side” and then had his death scene, there would be little impact on his importance to both the nations! these details reflect so much about brian’s influence and traits
it may be an honest opinion but it doesn’t take it away being hater activity :’). i do agree people can find this season tiresome because it’s info packed and is not showing the main mc we all love and read the story for. but idk i like the characters enough to be interested in their backstories and the story explaining their nation’s politics was easy enough to follow for me. also being lost on the story in early chapters? pls tell me you’ve read a long slow burn fic before bc this is basically what it consists of (constant build up, romance here and there but it’s every once in a while after a series of events)
thx for the example i never read it, so i wouldn’t know that there was a story cut down purposefully that’s so interesting. but okay here me out: the author does weekly chapters and can’t add on the dialogues + art in way that respect their time and rest. they could make the chapters longer, so “less” chapters are about the backstory, but there’s not enough time to work on all the aspects they would need to touch. also although they can summarize it, i feel like it doesn’t do the story justice and would feel super rushed especially since the first season had 53 chapters of ian and sol’s slow burn romance. they could say brian and sol were deeply in love but he died tragically, but imo we needed to understand how deeply involved sol was in brian’s past life and vice versa not just hear a simple version of it
to add on, the lord of the rings novel may not be an equal comparison to this webtoon, bc these chapters are actually really short if u only look at the writing itself, but it feels longer due to the art. in a novel, these past 17 chapters are most likely 3-4ish chapters of dialogue in
also, to add more haha: i don’t actually care about people saying they want more romance, to see ian again, think the story is boring, or are genuinely curious about why this backstory needs to be elaborated so much. what actually bothers me is how people are saying this season is bad and it doesn’t add anything to the main story. all the details in this season are so intentional and add more personality to sol and brian. especially how disconnected and unapproachable sol was to humanity before and how brian was extremely extroverted and had such excellent leadership skills- compared to the life he’s lived now being isolated and ridiculed
me calling people hater wasn’t pointing out people who criticized the story, of course anyone can do that and it doesn’t make them a hater. it was for the people who thought this arc wasn’t needed or being petty about the story when they could’ve went “i really wanted to see this…” instead of “the story is awful”. like that is literally hating. so imo if they wanted a light hearted romance with minimal backstory it feels counterintuitive to go into one with heavy politics and reincarnation and then complain about the context having heavy politics and the story actually explains not one, but two peoples “past lives” as well as the start of a nation
thank you! i tried to highlight what makes this season special, and im glad you agree and found it worthwhile too. im one of those fans where if i like media i will literally research all the characters (i like), other things they’re involved in, art of them, etc. so the fact that the character’s background is being laid out for the readers makes me very appreciative of this arc. it’s huge lore drops and explanations of how their society functions, so it’s super interesting to me
i thought id be seeing more supportive comments about my girl but you guys don’t like seeing a true villainous :( her using one person to not die isn’t bad. she’s done the most she can to give him comfort, but also consider her own safety since he was a ticking time bomb. the way she’s using him is to make sure he doesn’t kill her based on the og game, not making him do questionable things like he’s only been training. put some respect on her name!!
if y’all read the novel you’d think differently about eclise
Please Ikrrr, people like those are so dramatic and annoying Aren't they tired from trying to look every single fault there is to the manhwa?? Can they just read this in silence and comfortably? Like bro no one cares about their opinion they should just shut up for the sake of the people that likes this manhwa.
And also this is literally why the manhwa was named a villainess because that's how it should be Why are you expecting the villainess to be a goody two shoes when she's literally named the villainess?!?!
there were scenes, y’all know which ones, that were completely unnecessary but this author can write a good ass compelling story if we ignore those. i was going in upset and weirded out that they’re trying to make us see the bestfriend and the literal devil together but idk why it’s been so addicting to read. i mainly think it’s bc the bestie is brave enough to treat him that way and instead of retaliating, doheyok gets really soft and willing to do things (obvs not at first though) and we haven’t seen such a submissive side of him and it’s intriguing as hell tbh
disclaimer: the explicit sa is not okay, what im saying is their dynamic and willingness to do out of character things for each other was very unexpected. i don’t ship them but want to see if it’s even a possibility after the shit show and damage dohyeok. like how would this even work knowing how much he cares of suha??
i hope he falls down ten flights of stairs, gets a fast receding hair line, and that he can never get rid of an itch no matter how much he scratches. i hope the next time he gets in the car his ac is broken, his window gets cracked, the gas tank is empty, and the windshield wipers don’t work. i hope when he comes home after a long day at work his shoes don’t come off right and he trips while taking them off, his belt loop gets caught on all the doors, the shower only runs cold, and his pillowcase is warm, and his blanket irritates his skin. when tries to sleep it better be filled with nightmares or a migraine that won’t go away so he tries to drink water but the water is a bottle of bleach and now he can’t sleep can’t feel can’t drink can’t feel happy. ever.
dan blushing after thinking JK might like him feels so icky after all this time. what has JK done for you dan, like really? if someone likes you they don’t sexually abuse you, they don’t take advantage of your low income in order to make you do things, they don’t hurt you intentionally, and they sure as hell don’t treat belittle you or treat you with no respect. there have been no good moments between them outside of sex and it’s so hard seeing dan get bashful/shy like over what?? what makes you attracted to him other than the plot???
before some of u say “stop reading it if u don’t like it” pls stop. use ur non-yaoi brain cells and think about why someone might read a story even if it’s not appealing to them (it’s called curiosity)
Yessss the blushing is pissing me offf like what is the reason?? I’m so happy you mentioned the ‘stop reading if you don’t like it’ sayers, they’re annoying .
literallllyyyy!!! he doesn’t even treat u nice WHAT ARE WE GUSHING OVER!!! PLEASE
and i had to haha, some people can’t understand that you can want to see the end of a webtoon/book and that it doesn’t always have to be peak fiction in order to be interesting. like where were y’all with old bad shoujo? just bc we don’t like the romance, it doesn’t mean we never want to see how it ends lmao
Exactly what I'm thinking, thanks for pointing it out.
Considering the persona of Jaekyung, I doubt he'll ever care about Dan or whoever else if it wasn't for sexual services in exchange of sex (for his jinx). Though I get what you mean. Dan must believe JK cares about him and maybe expect something.
Chap 34 was so heavy in term of atmostphere. Chap 35 being all relaxed with almost chibiesque side characters chit-chating, showing Dan blushing after what happened... it feels like author is again lazy in their treatment of such heavy problematic, and they just flip flop things for the next smut scene.
I don't want to say one more time that I find Jinx a cliché plot and the only thing that keeps readers here is the art, but this latest chapter remains me that.
Proof is that many don't really care about the relationship of MC and ML and speak already about the side couple, pft..., it looks like it's US who are the ones attentive to the actual plot -_-
it’s so sad how the story is progressing :( i totally agree on what you said, about how the author writes smut with little actual story content. u really can see it with how the scenes start with violent sex but then quickly moves on to how dan is okay with it and we ignore the traumatic thing that JUST happened
ugh another thing but the side couple also felt so forced to me. everyone knew the author was gonna go for it and put that pair together, but they could’ve tried giving them chemistry at least lmao. i don’t care if readers only read for smut but it’s such a problem when they think the smut = love and chemistry like please.
Haa, agree again.
Jinx clearly announces the color from the first chapters; the sex scene with MC is forceful (and even more shocking because the art upgraded to semi-realistic).
Dan just moving fast from that can be explained by the fact that in these Rich x Poor scenarios, authors make the situation of MCs so miserable so that these poor souls have no choice but sell their body to survive. And if it's with a hot ML, all the better because we're in BL.
Of course a character shouldn't react like that IRL or not, he should have a better and more realistic treatment, though because it's BL Yaoi and fiction, author don't bother to write otherwise. This is lazy/bad writing. They could do better, but prefer what's easier, popular and don't take much risks anymore. Jinx defintely isn't different from the rest (BJ Alex was more original to me in term of concept), but let's see how the author will solve the case :))
All this negligence is pretty sad to me because BL and Yaoi can really be a ground for good, well written stories with smut or not. The presence of smutty scenes isn't an interference for a good storyline. The problem is that most Yaoi are simply focused on smut instead of the actual plot, the setting being cliché or not are simply there to serve the H scenes.
And yes, the side couple and their motivations are also forced, like the rest... Mingwa will again apply the recipe that made their success in BJ.
I forgot to say... The smut = love and chemisty can be (in my opinion) explained by the poor plot, once again. Other explanation is Boys Love, furthermore Yaoi, being mostly based on smut/or are plain smut: the only interactions the characters share that can be close to "love" are the S scenes, and the characters telling their love only during these sessions.
For a genre that's about romance, it's actually rare to see stories with real affection/attachment between lovers and the proofs of these feelings shown in Yaoi.
Add to that the fact that many yaoi readers and K authors grew up reading Japanese BL who romanticize rape and SA... I think that's how we're here
