Up until now he accepted Furuya being on the mound because he was a good pitcher. But with the condition Furuya was in there was absolutely NO reason to keep him in. They delayed the switch so much, it was almost too late.
But man, is there a person who wasn't giddy as hell at Kataoka's wide eyed look? I doubt it.

I kinda understand though. Furuya is the ace. His presence is considered important enough that Kataoka think his presence will affect the whole game entirely and will decide the flow of the game. He's probably afraid that the absence of Furuya from the mound will give a bad influence to the team and affect the flow of the game against the team. Kataoka seem to think really high on Furuya value as the Ace.
